Besides Earthlink, AOHell, Compuserve, and Microsft.net, can anyone recommend a GOOD ISP? I live in California. I had Earthlink before but left for an Ohio based ISP called Toast.net (anyone ever heard of it before?). Now I am increasingly disatisfied with it (frequent disconnects, lagg etc) and am thinking of going back to Earthlink. Does anyone know of a little-heard-of, but reliable ISp in California? I checked the website ISP Directory but I feel there might be others listed. Help!

Have you tried any local ISPs? That's what I use and have used for many years.
...just checked your profile. You're from LA? Then you should definately be able to get Cable or DSL service. Cable is usually $40-50 a month w/purchase of modem.

I really dont have the budget for DSL or Cable http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Yes, I am from Los Angeles. I do know of some locals like Earthlink and PC Magic. Anyone heard of any others? Earthlink is a local one for me (they are in Pasadena) but if anyone can name a couple off the top of their heads I would be grateful http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I had AT&T worldnet for over 2 years befor I got pacbell DSL the only reasion I switched is because AT&T does not have any high speed connections I would sugjest AT&T to any one gr8 service with a lot of extras like up to 60megs webspace 6 e-mail accounts and a few othere things in 2 years of service I was only down maybe 6 hrs total http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
1 other thing if you have AT&T long distance for your phone you can have your account billed to your phone so no need for a credit card http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

well, i'm not really too familiar with the los angeles area, so i don't know much of anything that's there.
but, just go to the site below and you might be able to find a place. http://yp.infospace.com/_1_4I41UU803DHI52E__info.metac/SearchYP?BP=2&BD=&QK=20&QC=Los+Angeles&QS=ca&QB=a1571600&QH=Internet+Service+Provider&QJ=1&BE=1
also try this analysis of different ISP's in the LA area: http://webservices.cnet.com/cgi/scompare.asp?sortby=company%2Cservice&join=and&stable=Dialup_Access&Areacodes_Serviced=213
Also, you could go the free route. Freewwweb is still good, if you tweak it some. (NOTE: I am not condoning, directly or indirectly, that you use a "banner killer" or whatever. I am simply talking about internet settings.)
E-mail me to get some good settings for it.
There are also other free services out there, so freewwweb isn't the only one. click here (http://home.cnet.com/internet/0-3765-7-2198531.html) to read of some of your choices.
also, from what i hear, K-Mart's BlueLight (http://www.bluelight.com/freeinternet/) free internet is pretty good.
hope this could help you out a little.

Try USWest.com, which I believe is getting ready to change its name... I think to Quest? I understand it is quite highly regarded.

try Free DSL's upgrade services. See if you are eligible. For 19.99 a month, you can get up to 384kbps. I don't know if you can tweak it to get higher speeds, but you get a free DSL modem. Canceling though.. that's a $200 penalty.

I'm very happy with Liberty Bay. see:

I never get busy signals and always connect at a good speed. I live on the east coast but they have access across the country. I think they are based in Seattle.
