Great test RR no disrespect, (lead test Sysopt homepage) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/articles/usparc-3/index.html but id like to see the effort spent on testing product geared more toward the "majority" of us...

I thought that the article was both timely, and a great addition to the Sysopt page! Especially in light of the fact that we are considering SUN Ultra III boxes for some of the servers we are going to build at work in the very near future.

I think that sometimes we forget that there is a slew of people, both business professionals and home enthusiasts, that read the Sysopt page, and don't participate in the BBS section at all......ever.

I also thought it was a great article because eventually, both Intel and AMD will be adopting similar designs (ie: 64bit processors). If you want to have some additional insight into the future of computing that the home enthusiast is going to experience, SUN is it.

I don't know about you, but if I could afford it, I'd have a SUN box at home.

Rob did an outstanding job with the article, and I for one appreciated the item he chose.

Are we getting a group buy together? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I read it, or at least most of it. Good to remember that AMD and Intel don't hold all the keys.

While I am not scripted in the technologies of the review, I do believe that it was one of the best moves SysOpt has made. Sun Microsystems is not just under the spotlight now, their under a friggin HEAT LAMP! Their stock is playing a C scale right in front of our eyes. A month ago they had a 3 for one split (darn i wasn't in on that http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif) then the stock market went to heck, and they've been waving up and down like a SuperBowl crowd in the stands!!!

I also don't think its right (while i observe freedom of speech) to post crude or irate comments on a forum BEING RUN BY THE PEOPLE YOUR BEATING DOWN! While the review may not be for all of us, it was a wake up call for the Right People.

SysOpt.com is geared towards IT Professionals and PC Enthusiasts. An IT professional is someone who either utilizes, or manages and maintains, systems, both desktops and servers, and makes buying decisions, for business.

Previous surveys on our site have shown that a very large percentage of our users are involved in the IT field by day. Thus, some of what we're going to cover will include IT business (both enterprise and SOHO) oriented products and technologies - ones that enthusiasts may have little or no interest in, or ones that enthusiasts may have no practical interest in, but may still like to read about because it's new and facinating info.

I try to add diversification within my topicalities. A substantial portion of my reader feedback is from people holding high-level IT positions within larger corporations.

As Scott indicated above, Sysopt.com hopes to capture the interests of ALL computer users, whether they be professionals, consumers, or hobbyist. It is difficult to clarify a "majority", as the increasing size and complexity of the Internet directly correlates to the various degrees of online user interests.

I've spent many tedious hours working on servers.

During my time I've seen several types come and go.

The main difficulty that I face is total understanding of them.

Though I've dedicated my lifetimes work and forward thinking goals to getting the perfect server, I seem to fall short.

As best I can calculate, approx 24,820 hours of toil has left me without the perfect server.

I've searched High and Low, often I find the best servers in the Waffle House, to me the Hilton's servers seem a little rude when I ask for a Beef Tongue biscuit and Hog Jowls for breakfast.

Still I toil, in the endless pursuit of the perfect server http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I looked through the article and was glad for the diversification but was not directly interested in the product. However, since Sun is an undisputed player in high-end systems it is foolish for anyone interested in IT to ignore what they are doing.

I would also like to see an article about Alpha CPUs hint..hint!

As a mere enthusiast, I am delighted to see such articles on SysOpt. I think many of the SysOpt members such as me who are just small-time overclockers are very interested in what the big boys are up to. Even though I could never possibly afford such technology, it is nice to have a look at what will be affordable in the future. Whenever new technology comes to the consumer market I feel like a total stranger, but when articles are written such as this so that it can be understood by both the enthusiast and the pro, it's a sign of what I should expect in the not so distant future, as workstation/server class technology is passed down to the consumer level. I think many of us aspire to become IT pros and every little bit if info on the latest and greatest is a pleasure to read.
I hope to see more of this on SysOpt, for when I want to find out what the big boys are up to, it's usually greek to me.
I have mostly focused my attention to the SysOpt forums, but I think I just may pay a little more attention to everything else SysOpt has to offer from now on http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
