In our article on recycling CDs back in August, Steve Webster
<joinindycgaux@go.com> of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary said: "We use
them for public relations by making CD labels with our logo and
information on how to take our free safe boating education course, and
other information like our Website address <http://www.uscgaux.org >. We
give these away as survival reflectors (every life jacket should have
one stowed in a pocket to signal for rescue). If anyone would like to
get rid of their CDs in this way, we would appreciate them very much."

Steve now writes:

"Thanks for running our ad... The program was such a success that I'm
writing to ask you to re-run the ad, this time with a shipping address.
We really appreciate your efforts in helping us to reach our objectives
in safe boating."

So if you have ruined/unwanted CDs you'd like to donate to this safety
program, just mail them to:

I think that's a great idea, cody. There have to be a zillion AOL cd's and countless buffer underruns. And as a matter of fact they do make startlingly good reflectors. We used to drive down the road and light up sections of overhead road signs by reflecting the suns light in the middle of the day. (I dunno if that's legal or not.<IMG SRC="http://www.geocities.com/hd580/biggrin.gif" border=0>)

Time to start gathering them up! BTW, why do they call them coasters? I almost never use coasters and when I do they make poor coasters b/c water leaks right down the center. ???

Excellent idea! I've been giving them to a friend that glues them to the wall. He painted the walls in his study black, and has been gluing on on for about a year, he's almost finished, looks cooooool!!!

Great idea Cody,

I've not made ANY COASTERS with my HP 8250i,, yet anyway..

Someone told me you could burn onto the AOL and other useless http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif CD's and make use of them..

When I tried with this burner,, it kicked the door open , as if to say,, STOOPID , put in a good CD. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Wow,
Thats actually a great idea, and boating is big where I live.

One problem I have is that it has been a slow AOL year for me, I have recieved only about 20. Maybe with the new release out that will change. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Is it possible to erase one of those cds?

I'm using Easy CD Creator 4.02. It has the option for CD-RWs but not anything else.

Unfortunately, this program doesn't have that feature at all.
Note: You cannot erase the contents of a CD-R (CD-Recordable) CD.

Any other program?
