This may sound dumb, but can Linux run windows apps?

There is limited windows application support in Linux via wine which is a windows emulator of sorts. It works ok for simple stuff, but I was not impressed with it. You will find that there are lots of GNU apps out there for Linux that take the place of the windows versions.

I'm with bdog ! Linux doesn't do windoze ! Why should it ? If you want/need to run windoze apps, do it on windoze. There are lots of native Linux apps that can do what ever you need to do.

The reason I ask is because I don't think there is any free ISPs out there for Linux, is there?

There are some but I can't remember offhand. I have cable so I don't use them. Run a search on the BBS over at www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) This has been talked about quite a bit over there.

StarOffice 5.2 - $49 runs on Windows, Linux, and Solaris; incidentally, StarOffice 5.2 includes quite a few more features than MS Office 2000 at 1/10th the price.

I was a little more than impressed when my free copy of StarOffice 5.1 opened a slide show created in Power Point 97...

Linux would need an emulator to run winders apps directly. But, Linux can DO windows.

Check out www.vmware.com. (http://www.vmware.com.)

Some great software.
