I've read enough about a separate partition for the swap files that I'm ready to try it.
Read enough that is except how to do it.
Where are the files? How do you pull them out...is it during Fdisk or after the logical drive is set?
...stuff like that...
Thx for what ever info you can provide.

Sleeper, you prolly could have found this info through a search of the board, but I'll try to help anyway. I assume that since you are referring to Fdisk, that you don't have more than one partition presently and that you are preparing to reinstall Windows. If this is wrong, stop here, because using Fdisk will require reinstalling Windows. If right, go ahead an use Fdisk to partition your disk however you see fit. Usually, the first and active partition for Windows and minor programs should occupy around 1-2gb of disk space. Then you have to make a decision, do you want to make a separate swapfile partition or just merge it in the middle partition of your disk. If you make a separate one, you have to be sure to make it large enough, which could lead to wasted space. A suggestion would be 4-500mb. If you just want to merge it, just make the rest of your partitions the size you would like. When this is done and you have formatted and installed Windows, go to Control Panel/System/Performance/Virtual Memory and tell Windows you want to specify the swapfile. Then specify the partition(disk drive letter)you want to create it in and tell it what size you would like it to be. Hopefully, this mess changed your mind about fooling with it, especially if you have Win98, because it ain't gonna help, but do what you like and best of luck. If you don't have enough memory, you should consider buying some more. If you do, this ain't gonna do much that's noticable. But, I'm sure you can get many differing opinions here, as well as elsewhere. Good luck! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for taking time to respond.
When I found out where it was and how many times I had gone over it without knowing...
Let's just leave it with my humble thanks.
