Where to find ATX power supply cable extension?

Hi,

Does anybody have any suggestions where to find an extender for the ATX power supply-to-motherboard connection? After months of anticipation, all the pieces of my computer finally arrived, I installed my Abit BX6 in the Yeong Yang minicube server case, plugged all the cards and cables in-- and the dang power cord won't reach! Ouch! It really is impossible... why didn't I realize this would happen?

I hit the road and visited five computer stores today. Nobody had the item. So I'm going to call ESC-CA, where I bought the case-- but just in case they don't
have it, does anyone have any suggestions for
an internet or local (Connecticut, near New Haven) vendor? I can't believe that I will have to wait even longer to power on my new system!

This is what I get for trying to impress my friends, who thought that the YY minicube looked much cooler than the a-pro 801, which
is what I was originally going to get. It has been a bit of a hassle to install items in this case, although finally almost everything worked out with some ingenuity and several frustrated blows of a hammer.

But as for Comp-USA: I broke my long-standing vow never to darken their doors again (broken and remade yesterday, when I wasted almost an hour waiting in their lines, hoping that they had 3.5"-to-5.25" extender rails). Of course they didn't have the cable and I killed yet another hour, misbegotten wretch that I am. But I was pleased to see that they are still charging $29.95 to do memory upgrades.

Radio Shack: the abridged version at the local mall was unable to help me(today I also broke a long-standing vow never to enter that mall again.)I will try to call a more thorough version of Radio Shack tomorrow to see if they have the part.

As for waiting for a computer show to hit this area, I think I will simply curl up and
die if I have to wait more than another week to get this machine up and running!

If nothing turns up, you could extend the existing wires by splicing in additional lengths. Solder or "crimps" should be used, but a thorough twisting together and taping of clean copper will get you by for a good while. I'll check around L.A. and let you know if I find something. I could not find it on their site, but I ordered several ATX extentions from them a couple months back. Give them a call and they may have it. The list price on the AT extender is $3.12 and I don't remember the ATX ones being much more than that.

Yeah, I thought of moving the power supply,
too: the problem is that there is a very pretty but asymmetrical cutout in the back for the power switch and fan which means the PS can be positioned in only one way. Cut the case? Remember that I chose it for its good looks in the first place http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Oy.

T'anks for the offer to look around, though. Hopefully I'll find a source within a couple of days... I may well do the wire splicing/taping if nothing else works. I don't even need one foot of cable! About 3 inches would do it! Maybe less! So maybe I could try to cannibalize wires from some of the extra Y-cables, etc that I have lying around?

Have never seen these at any comp. stores here (St Louis) and there are at least 20 nearby. Found some at an electronics supply house, of all places, for about $5. Hit your local phone book & check, bet you'll find one. They seem to carry more of the "off-beat" stuff than the regular sources.

I ended up ordering from cyberguys, and the
part is on its way... should arrive on Thursday. Shipping ($7) was more expensive than the part($5), but oh well...I threw in an order for a CD labeler to make the package worthwhile.

I did make calls to seven more local computer stores + the closest big(non-mall) Radio Shack: Radio Shack advised me to call their 1-800 number to see whether it was listed in their catalogue. So. Internet was the best way, after all.

After I had made the order, I did get a tip from the fellows at the local machine shop that www.dalco.com is a great supplier for cables and all those little whizmos we love. It is! though I don't think it is any better than cyberguys when it comes to shipping.

Computer Renaissance in Manchester, eh? There's one in Orange... I wonder if they're related.(the Orange store didn't have the part).

Well, I have to say that inconvenient as the YY case has been, part of it has been due to my inexperience. It's a mighty fine-looking beast, with plenty of room: my heart swells with pride every time I look at it. I also purchased some black auto interior paint and was able to color my fan cover and floppy drive bezel to match the case. If I'm feeling saucy, I may take off the DVD bezel and do the same... As for the CDRW, Plextor boasts on their website that they now have all bezels available in black.

I haven't written in when people have asked what cool cases to buy because I wasn't sure about this case (also I haven't much basis for comparison). However, if anybody ever wishes to repeat the process of making a powerful home computer out of the YY minicube my advice would be: (1) ask the vendor to throw in an ATX extension cord if they have any;
(2) don't forget to order the extra 90mm fan that goes in the front, since they're harder to find than 80 mm fans. Same goes for a 3.5" to 5.25" drive adapter kit since there are no external 3.5" bays.
(3)You'll probably need a slot fan in back.
(4)The slots in back for the cards seem a bit misaligned, but with a bit of sweat and unscrewing and rescrewing of port plates, it all works out.
(5) The case is a luxury and not for people who want the most function for their money.

My final mistake so far has been: don't get the MSI slot adapter with an Abit board. Get an Abit slotket. The tops and bottoms of the different brands of CPU/slot adapter retaining mechanisms don't match, so I've had to stabilize the slot adapter (weighed down by the heavy Socket 7 Alpha heatsink) with rubber bands!
