So let this salutary tale be a warning to any of you folks thinking of posting the odd QuickTime movie of Doom 3 or whatever: careless posting costs hard cash.
Seems to me like Earthlink and the person who wrote the article were a little to harsh on the guy. I have pictures on my website. What if people go crazy and start d/l them (for some odd reason). Am I going to be held responsible?
Earthlink is singling him out as the villain when the people who should be responsible are the ones who d/l it. Why are they just going after him?

hehe that must suck,....but id have to say that in reality they don't stand much chance of collecting .If he takes them to court ,earthlink would have to show why they didn't notify him of this massive over run of his account...specially if he has a track record of being under the allowed transfers...in my opinion earthlink should have notified him or temporally suspended his account until they contacted him...sounds like earthlink has a nice scam going on here

Screw earthlink! That's funny though!
I'm sorry, but the guy new he had a 500M/month limit...I can do better than that in a night!
I just cant believe someone would be stupid enough to actually use a company that would charge at 10 cents/Meg above 500...
At least MediaOne/ATT is unlimited access.
Snuffy!

I don't think its his fault. That limit was probably in the small print of the agreement. Who reads those? i just scroll to the bottom of the screen and click "I Accept".
Yea..you just keep right on doing that...your bill is next, LOL!
Mediaone gives me 10M of webspace, up to 5 accounts for a total of 50Meg's...all in the unlimited cablemodem package I have.
Works out good for a web site, you just can't use your own top level domain name.

MSN have a limited plan of 10 hour limit for 9.95,
after that it 2 dollar an hour. Hmm let see how much that would add up if you were to use 400 hour?
I don't know why anybody would want to sign up for this limited ****, just forget them. Get unlimited and pay a little more. That the same with having 500 meg limit of bandwidth, so screw it. dont sign up for it find a better ISP or get a better plan.

$24000!!!
Thats enough to but a car! A nice one at That!
Bad enough, you might think, but a closer look at his site access log showed that during September, some 4500GB (4,500,000MB) were downloaded - resulting in a $24,000 charge.
Maybe its cheaper to but a 4500GB hard-drive? If they had one.

I'm not sure, but I think he might have uploaded it to home.earthlink.net, Earthlink's members web space. If he did, he would've been notified regularly about his traffic and disk size via email.
I have gone over on disk size and an email immediately appeared giving me 3 days warning.
