My city sucks. I live in the only other city in my county (Lackawanna, PA) and at the moment I cant get any high speed access. My phone company doesnt offer it in this area and my cable company puts a 3 gig a month bandwith cap. Feel free to send them any emails regarding this hooey. www.echoes.net (http://www.echoes.net)

What if you lived here and the only thing was 28.8 and it connects usually at 26.4 or less. Bandwidth tests say I have a 12,000 connection.. now there. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gifDrVette

I understand your problem. I have a winmodem that usually connects at around 28.8, the highest ive ever gotten was 36.

Yes, there are worse things in life http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.
For me, I won't have cable until next spring. Even then, my dad probably won't get it because he has no "need for speed", such as I. Maybe if I offer to pay half ($20 ea.) he will do it cause that is what he pays now per month ($20)....hmmmmmm....

I was going to start a new thread for this question, but I wont. I can get a 128k w/modem rental for $30 a month, which is very do-able(sp?) for myself. But, how long would it take to run up a 3 gig limit if I were to play 2-3 hours of games like q3 and tribes for 4-5 days a week (less when school starts). After you go past 3 they hit you for a nickel a meg. Which really sucks.

ISDN would be to expensive to install. Besides, My ISP says they will have their own high speed alternative to DSL. They have said that the price and performance will be comparable to DSL. Any ideas of what kind of technology theyre using? or is it proprietary? www.icontech.com (http://www.icontech.com)

You already have a phone line, check out DSL.
Banging away on a modem until the DSL man arrives...
