PATIENCE !

Don't get in a Hurry.

Yesterday at my local WONDERFUL Office Depot,
the mgr let me have a HP CD-RW cheap!

HP 8250i

At Pricewatch the cheapest was $180.00
At Sysopt's price guide, $200+

He let me have it for $99.00

Somebody's gonna say, HEY, That One's Slow,,
NAA, read read the reviews.
Numbers don't always tell the story.

Got my 19" KDS for $189.00 del,
AND have a $50 rebate I can apply for!!
Can you say $139.00 for a 19" ?

Got my 3dfx at OD for $75.
Told em that the online Staples store had them for that, and they matched.
Oddly the Staples store here refuses to match ???

Got a large format printer, XEROX C-20 for $99, delivered.

A WD 13gb 5400 ata/66 for $59.00

A 17" HP for $129

Xerox C6 text color printer $19.95

Whoever you deal with, ALWAYS tell them you appreciate them and if possible say you're in no hurry. This usually speeds them up, I've had this pleasure anyway.

Keep prices handy, write em down if you don't remember well.

Stay prepared.

It don't help to find a deal if you blowed the reserves drinking and dancing at the local "Meat Market" last Saturday night http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Good advise! Especially important is how you deal with people.
I've gotten a lot of VERY good deals also, and agree that OD is the best.

But a buddy of mine can't get anything there. They'll find a "loophole" every time.
It's due to his personality and tone of voice, which are just naturally abrasive. I swear he could aggravate ANYBODY!
We've actually gone together, & I'll wait while he tries. Then I go in & get the deal. Really irritates HIM, but fun for ME! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Point is that the Doc's right. You've GOT to be courtious in dealing with people. They can "stretch" their rules either way & it's MUCH better to have them on YOUR side!! And clerks & managers DO remember you from one time to the next. ALWAYS thank them sincerely.
As the Doc said, be patient. The best deals take time. And if they're really busy, go back later. Timing can be crucial.

Some memorable deals:

Creative Labs vid card. (I forget which one) The price match of a web vendor brought the price to well below -0-. I got it free, and they apologized that policy wouldn't allow a refund!!

Several software deals, same way.

HP LaserJet 6L - $75.00 each (bought two)

64mb PNY dimms, PC100. Best deal. Won't say the price, but we bought every stick in 7 stores & paid cash w/o a trip to the bank!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
And that was last winter!

Lots of other deals all over, and tons of non computer stuff also.

Learn how to "deal" & do it well, it's a skill that'll serve you VERY profitably!
