I heard of someone having this happen to them, what they ended up doing was taking the email address, and contacting the email service carrier. Such as Hotmail, earthlink, etc. Try and have them give you any information, they won't be able to give you personal stuff anyways so, and the person is probably under an alias..but they do have to connect to the internet whether through LAN or Dial-Up, whenever they send an email, the service would probably be able to find out the person's internet ISP and then you can try and contact them about the same deal. It would be great if they were on a LAN (DSL, Cable, etc) Because that way, they most likely have a static IP address. That way the ISP would be able to find them quickly...hope some of that helps somewhere. I know its long, but hey if you really want to know....

If you can just open up the email and look at the "header coding" as it will show you where the email originated from. If you cant figure it out feel free to FORWARD the email to me and I will let you know. By FORWARDING the email it will keep all the "encoding" that the original had instead of doing a cut and paste of the text.

I have done this before. I was getting 'bombarded' by emails about "take credit cards online" and some porno **** in my office email. So I read the headers and found it was a kid a georgia state and another one was from some ISP that i guess wanted some money. I let my ISP take care of it though.

Blocking email from that person would work just as well.

Depending on the mail client you may be able to auto bounce their mail back. Eventually they will get tired and stop.

Depending on the content of the e-mail, you may also decide to go to the police. Here at UCI, one particular student took it upon himself about six years ago to e-mail 150 people with something to the extent of, "I hate you Asians, you're the cause of all the problems here, I'm going to make it my point in life to hunt you down and kill you all..." Yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, he was the first person to be convicted of harrassment by e-mail. Just a suggestion.

Contacting the internet provider is your best bet. If any threats are made, then you can also research whether or not your local police department has an internet/electronic crimes division. Print these things out - don't just delete them.

On another note - I'm sorry to say that Earthlink / Mindspring is one of the worst for SPAM that I've seen. I get all sorts of junk coming across from all over the world. I've never been on AOL, but have heard nightmare stories about their mailing lists as well....
