Lovely Mr. Gore now wants to control advertising of violent entertainment to my kids. It's no longer my job to supervise my kids - how lovely.
Let's see; my 16 year old boy must be protected from this evil for he is too stupid to see through the hype & BS of advertising for he hasn't the moxy, but my 14 year old girl has the where-with-all to make the decision to have an abortion.
I'm sure glad I have a friend who is so consistent.
Beware the tipper factor.

Know what you mean - here it's called the Nanny State.
It really is a good job we have these politicians to stop us mere mortals making mistakes or how would we get by? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Get your facts right or are you going to be like the rest of the republicans an pass on half truths and inuendo. Internal memos show that 12 year old males are the targeted age group for R rated advertising.also the rnc has been running subliminal advertising. They say they don't know how it happened but that is a flat out lie. Ask anyone in the business and they will tell you that every commercial is viewed frame by frame over and over during editing, I have spent many hours watching the editing of commercials and movies. If you have ever seen a Disney commercial or movie you have seen the work of the editor I have watched. barry

you are supposed to be parent Barry. I'll watch out fo my kids if you don't mind. But to have the government tell me how to raise my kids on one front but then tell me I don't have that right on another issue is ridiculous and inconsistent.
As for subliminal, that's just a bunch of demo bull. If you see it in the commercial, it is not subliminal! I do believe it was put there intentionally and now the rnc is hem-hawing.

barry,

Let's really get our facts straight.

Tipper spearheaded the rating system for music CDs and videos, but backed off when Hollywood threatened to leave Bill and Algore flat if they persisted. Poof! The "spearheading" went away.

Algore can speak to the "targeting" of young kids for violent/explicit movies and games and CDs, but with much hypocricy as he gets the vast majority of his campaign warchest from the Hollywood entertainment crowd.

This issue isn't a govenrment problem, it's a parent problem! I can't tell you how many movies that I've been at where the youngest viewers were 6/7/8 years old. Good examples are "Me, Myself and Irene" and "Big Momma's House", where there was a 50/50 split between the under and the over 17 crowd. They didn't get in by themselves, all were chaperoned by mom and dad or mom or dad. Is this the place of the government to tell these grownups that it's wrong to subject their kids to this ****? No, if the parents don't have the common sense they were born with and take their kids to mature-content movies, then they should be ridiculed by others. People don't care anymore -- they take the easy way out, and put about as much thought into important matters like this as they would picking a can of soup!! I personally think that there should be a public service announcement before the movie runs that shames these people into removing their kids. The government has never been effective in matters like this -- it would just add bureaurocracy, cost and then congratulate itself on a job well done, regardless of the results!

Keep Tipper, Algore and Bill where they belong, at home!

And keep Washington out of our personal affairs.

And the big subliminal advertising message is the word "Bureaucrats" that scrolls across the TV screen and ends with "rats" (the end of bureauc(rats)) and then fades out -- all in 1/3 of a second. Ohmygod, the muckraking!!! If I were the RNC, I'd be more worried that the "Rat Lobby" sue because of the defamation of being linked with the Democ(rats) and Algore!!! Even a rat has some self-respect!!!

C'mon Algore, debate the real issues and not the insignificant minutae.

Tony

I'm not too worried about it. I put as much stock in Gore saying he's going to do anything about this as I put into every other campaign promise politicians make. The government feels that we, the people, must be protected from our own stupidity. The fact is, it's not stupidity. It's free choice.

We cannot legislate stupidity, and believe me, it shows. If I had a dollar for each time I saw a parent do something outrageous to the detriment of their child, I could go on a nice vacation. And since we cannot legislate who can and cannot be a parent, why can't we legislate how the entertainment industry advertises? If it will prevent our most precious resource, our children, from being given the wrong messages, what's the harm? As an involved parent, I can choose what my kids do and don't see. For the uninvolved parents, placing restrictions on entertainment industry advertising is a safety precaution. We already place significant restrictions on tobacco and alcohol related advertising, and I don't see much difference here.

Bush stated that he did not know anything about the comercial. If you believe that you will believe any thing.

Yea...like..."I invented the Internet."

Barry...havent you learned that hardly anyone here really believes any political rants you come up with yet!

So what if the RNC used a subliminal "rats" in the commercial...whoopi! Who gives a 'rats' behind? Heck, the way I see it, it's true anyway.

If you havent noticed, they are yelling about it because the RNC might mistakenly adopt the ways of the DNC! ( Yea, the DNC has done subliminal campaigning a long time...just how do you think you were fooled? You do know that was how the liar got elected, or do you not realize that even? )

We really need a candidate that has no knowledge of the content of a commercial being run over 3000 times and paid for by the party when he supposedly is the the head honcho in charge. Or did old dad forget to tell jr. about the little addvert. And yes I heard him make the statement in a live interview just this a.m. on live tv. As of yet they cant edit live broadcast without a time delay. That interview this morning was pathetic. barry

Lets see...If he takes up the strategy of denial, then asked the question what is is, then told everyone to believe him for no reason other than he says "I care"...then maybe he would have a chance?

I bet that would scare the DNC.

MrMikeL:
So now were are going to get more bureaucrats deciding what is proper advertising for my 14 year old. I know best - it is my right, duty & privilege. They do not know my kid or yours or any body else’s, but you would have them make decisions for you. When they pass the standards and you feel they are too low, who's gonna help those uninvolved parents. Uninvolved parents will stay that way and the kids will just figure a way around it. So more of our tax money will go to a useless endeavor. And the slime companies that do target kids will figure new ways to circumvent the rules - probably via the internet.

Since getting Direct TV, I can count on my hands the commercials I've watched. This would be an ideal way to go for parents who were worried about the content in these advertisements. This is not a commercial for this service. Cable would be just as good or the RCA dish. Filtering is available and I feel that getting away from commercial TV
was the best thing that ever happened. Something to consider for concerned parents. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Bush stated that he did not know anything about the comercial. If you believe that you will believe any thing. and if you think it was an accident you are wrong. EVERY FRAME in a comercial is viewed dozens of times as it is edited. It is not unusual to take several days to shoot a commercial.the rule of thumb is only one third to one eighth of the film/tape is actually used.I know what I speak of because I have built sets as well as lighted the stages on shoots. I have monitored the Beta tape machines during shoots I have been gaffer ,best boy, just plain flunky on a few ocasions. barry

I don't think we're disagreeing here. You and I agree that parents are the ultimate control over what their children see & don't see. The advertising the gov't wants to place controls on is the stuff we wouldn't let our kids see anyway. So I think we agree on that. You dislike having the gov't put those controls on, and I want them to do it because of those "other" parents who either don't know better or just don't give a ****.

I think that oldmanx is just saying that it is a form of censorship.........we should censor our own children, not the government...................hell why dont they just make it illegal to let kids watch TV??? *sarcasm*

I think many of people are not aware of the subliminal BS put into some TV commercials & shows, movies, music, etc..

Yes that is how "the liar" got elected.

It would not bother me a bit for the government to censor TV commercials. While they are at it the can turn them down too. I find it extremely annoying that when a commercial comes on I have to turn the TV down because they want me to hear it when I go to another room to get something!

Excuse me mister bba since you speak for the whole board I shall refrain from disagreeing with any of the half truths ind innuendos you espouse. Its plain to see that you and Jerry Falwell know whats good for the rest of society. And I suppose that iF I dont like it I can just move to another country right. I sugest you go 50 miles south on 17 and look around you'll see where I grew up people there are proud to be Americans and we are not fooled by a bunch of fast talking shysters from out of state. barry
