I have a board that have both 72 pins and 168 pins memory slot, but they must not be both used at the same time.

I have a choice between 48 Mb EDO on 72 pins format or 32 Mb SDRAM and I can't get both to try them.

Which would be better ?

Go with the EDO, it's more expensive and therefore better http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif j/k. Seriously, get the EDO, more memory the better, one of the IT Techs at work told me that edo performed better in some applications than SDRAM. I dunno myself, just a pals P100 I o/c'd to 120 and added 64meg EDO ran great on Windows98. I used a HP 3200 scanner and a IBM C6 printer. Installed 5 free isp's and it ran all the programs fast, for a P100. It actually seemed as fast as my old HP amdK6-2 333 w/128 RAM. All drivel aside, I think the EDO is the choice. DrVette

I'd go with the EDO...

More just a personal preferance of mine, really..

It kinda also depends on your CPU and the FSB that it is intended to run at. What CPU are you gonna use?

If this RAM is going in a Pentium-class and/or 233 Mhz or lower CPU, go with the EDO RAM--the comparison won't hurt you any.

If you're planning to use it in any system running higher than a 66 Mhz bus, or in a system going faster than 233, use the SDRAM.

Here's why: The EDO RAM uses a 32-bit data channel to transfer data, where the SDRAM uses a 64-bit channel. This means, basically, that EDO can only send 32 bits of data per clock cycle to the CPU, whereas the SDRAM can send 64.

Basically, if you get the SDRAM, go spend another 30 bucks and get 64. That's your best bet.

Thanks guys, I'll use the EDO.

It's a system with 66 MHz FSB (K6-2 333, but no 83 nor 95 FSB).

I have used only EDO in my socket 7 boards and i think it's great(also used SDRAM but I didn't like it). I now have 64mb of EDO RAM in my Pentium 166mmx. It runs great. Good choice! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
