I know,I know....this is a PC site.BUT alot of people come here for help and other related things for Macintoshs. And since Apples are such a large group of computers and are so unique, and some people know lots about macs while others no not anything at all, should we open a forum just for Apple/Mac? Im sure i would contirubute my Mcknowledge http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Why not?

But they are really easy to use and never have problems. So what would be the purpose?

Sorry, I vote YAY. Wait, wouldn't this be OS related?
Maybe not.

Wow, a dearth of Mac/Apple stuff.

I have used them, networked them, added devices (scanners, printers, modems...), used apps and though I don't have much experience, end of run on sentence. I can only state they I personally never saw one crash on the OS level (including hardware). I've seen apps fail, but only when doing stupid stuff, like switching out drives (floppy, tape, magnetic). They always did what I wanted them to do. I certainly can't say that about PCs.

Since i learn alot here, tht might be a good addition, because I would read up on Macs more. Might take a while to catch on and may be out of everyone's idea of important info. I would enjoy it but am not going to die if it is not up. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Of course I wouldn't want want one http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

There are only a select few (that I know of) who use macs on this forum. How would they get their answers to questions? 98% of the people here are PC addicts. They might be 20-30 who go to the Mac forum and actually know them, IMO. Maybe more would come, maybe not....after all this is a PC site, not a mac site.

Why not after all it is a computer forum and Apple Macs are computers http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif after all. G** help me if Her in doors reads this, she start the My Mac is better than your PC's war again.

As far as I see it any computer system is covered and if we can help solve a problem, I think any member of this BBS would do their best to help out, this is just the way Sysopt is.

Sure, lets go beyond MACS and open it up to mainframes and other stuff too. This can then be expanded into one big "Technology" forum, including web-supported home appliances! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Just kidding but I think macs are a whole new ball game and duplicate the maintenance/cost level, and lead to questions of whether or not it fits the core of earthweb as well. They are in the process of linking sysopt together more with earthweb (right?) and I don't think that MAC fits earthweb's current services well (if I'm not mistaken...), and it would really need to so that banner space/efficiency could be maximized, as well as sensibly linking participants to other Earthweb services.

If Sysopt did commit to it I'm sure it would be great (and I loved using macs) but am just guessing that there would be alot more involved in the decision process than what meets the eye here and my guess is that it would be concluded "not practical". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I think we should include mac questions ,in fact I have asked mac related Q in tech help and recieved answers. I don't know if we need a separate forum for it most people could differentiate between mac & pc Q's .imo, skai

Lots of us are "closet" Mac users, we have so few problems tho, I dont think an entire forum is neccessary, but as jjsole suggests, a spot for an "alternative computer?" use section could be helpful to many... http://b.postmypic.com/b.nsf/Z/MOD4PQWJ/$file/MOD4.jpg

Macs might suck... with a Apple OS, but what about LinuxPPC? I believe that YellowDog has a pretty good version that is climbing up to the PC versions.

So when you beat down a Mac remember it might be Linus in Steve's clothing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll give this some thought after the new forum software is in place, but I don't think it should be created sooner than that.

I suppose ok if they are completely separate entities altogether with separate topics (i.e. networking,OS, tech support, video, etc.) But wouldnt want to see bleedover if a question is unanswered on one forum. Wading through posts dealing with another platform that is not mentioned in the post subject line could be time-consuming. I think a poll would be in order to determine how many proficient mac-heads we have here.

leave it up to sysopt to decide, they are more knowlegable of the capabilitys, than we. It should be a totaly separate forum. lets not forget they are the ones that do the work.

I vote yes. Start w/ one forum for Mac users and see how it grows from there.
