This is happening my system more and more often. At first I wasn't concerned, but now I am;
While I am hooked up to the net doing a little surfing, after about 1/2 an hour or so,(sometimes longer) suddenly, I am unable to select links or go to pages that I have bookemarked or put in the address field. There seems to be a loss of transfer and reading of text. I am completely unable to go to other pages. I have to disconnect and reboot the system totally in order to re-obtain connectivity. I am on a 56k V90 modem blaster. What the heck is going on???
PS
I still am showing a connection to the net when this happens.

Hi Nomadd,
Let us know what browser you are using, and what version. How much ram do you have? What isp are you using? By getting this info some members might be able to help more http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Nomadd,
Just a guess, but I had a similar problem when I used dialup. My network connection would seem to have died, even though the connection light was still on. I found out my phone line quality was poor, to say the least. This prevented transfer of data, but wasn't bad enough to disconnect me. Here's some possible workarounds. If you have numerous devices using one phone line, i.e., two or three phones and your PC, try disconnecting some of the phones (I mean physically pulling the plugs out of the wall jacks). The more devices you have on the line, the lower the line voltage, which isn't high to begin with. Also, check Radio Shack or a local electronics store for a line voltage booster or conditioner for your phone line. Make sure the folks at the store understand what you want to use it for. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Hi Chip! Here it goes;
Netscape Navigator 4.3; 64 Meg SD RAM; and Toast.net, a Ohio based ISP. There pretty good, but I have been experiencing some frequent disconnects. However, I had Earthlink before Toast and I did experience this problem before. Just not as often now.
Thanks for the response. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Good suggestions M_six. I didn't know they had "line conditioners." Will defenitly check that out and hope they aren't too expensive.
Please, more theories people!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

What type of chipset does your modem use? We have the same problems on the north side of town where I live. Rockwell modems work worth **** but Lucent and USR's can get maximum 28.8. And DSL performs at a minimum there. That line conditioner might work, but you may need better equipment in the box too.
