The TV news says that the enquiry into the crash found it was caused by an accidental explosion in a fuel tank.
The commentary said that a lot of people thought that the Inquiry was a cover up for a mistake by the Navy and that evidence that the Navy shot flight 800 down was not reviewed.
We {Australia} only get the bare bones of news in the US, what really happened? Regards skai

We don't know either.

I just heard that in the recent inquiry they simulated the fuel tank full of vapors but couldn't get it to explode. They added an igniter (which is NOT on the actual plane) in order to get the fuel tank to blow. IOW, they still have not proved their case.

Also I've heard from a number of witnesses that swear it was a rocket/missile. Two of which are a pilot and his co-pilot from a plane in the area that saw it! All the details of their story jibe perfectly with what they would've saw had it been a shoulder-launched rocket from the ground.

Doubtful that OUR military full of normal people could keep such a thing silent.
Radar operators both civilian and military could spot something that small for many miles away.

The fuel is much more credible to me.

Wire chafing in the airline industry is a problem understated BIG TIME.
It crashed some F-16's and has been an ongoing nightmare for all aviators.

Come-on air-heads , lets hear it..

The US military uses an inert gas to fill the fuel tanks due to the possibility of puncture from various sources, not only enemy fire.

The US airline industry failed to see the danger and stated that the customers would not entertain the ideal of ANY price hikes.

They didn't ask me.

Wire chafing, most likely. IMHO

I have no problem believing the missile theory, particularly because of the eyewitness accounts.

There are too many secret 'side shows' going on with development/testing/training etc. in the military and other agencies with their own secret agendas as well, to give them all the benefit of the doubt. Who knows, maybe the CIA was training agents some for some clandestine operation in South Americe somewhere secretively on the east coast and a missile accidently launched. History shows its certainly a possibility. And if it was already stealth, would they really come out and say "my bad"?

There have been too many cases of coverups in the past and this could easily be one. I don't go for paranoia, but statistics, and I find it very possible until proven otherwise.

I think there are plenty of normal people in the military and govt, just not 'normal' motives and agendas.
