In 1998, the U.S. software industry lost over $2.9 billion in the United States because of software theft, and $11 billion throughout the world.
For the U.S. economy at large, software piracy resulted in 109,000 fewer jobs, $4.5 billion in lost wages, and nearly $1 billion in lost tax revenues.
