My most frequent partner is taking lessons and is killing me right now. I have gotten to my grand status as a golfer by self-taught techniques. Guess I need a lesson or two myself/ http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Dave brandon184 08-13-2000, 04:36 PM http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif My score is usually about a 73 - 78 for 18 holes here. 9 Par 5's, 6 Par 4's, 3 Par 3's... I can usually get around 40 on 9 holes (par is 37)... - Brandon Chainsaw 08-13-2000, 04:40 PM Love it, time and money permitting. We have some really beautiful courses here in the Pacific Northwest. In fact, got a great one within about 1/2 mile of here, now if I could just get those graphite clubs I've been wanting... I'm just a duffer though, I'm happy if I break 60, yea, that's 9 LOL. Later, c:::CHNsaw [This message has been edited by Chainsaw (edited 08-13-2000).] Apostle 83 08-13-2000, 04:51 PM Love the sport =) Just have a nasty slice, and as I'm taller than normal and had to have custom clubs made, the balance on em isn't quite right and I pancake (a local high school team term) with anything below a 5 iron =( But, I get 85-90 on 18. chipbgt 08-13-2000, 04:54 PM i love golf, its just a shame that You have to pay everytime you want to play. If I want to go shoot a few jumpers down at the local park, I dont have to pay 30 bucks. Wouldn't it be great to have a public free golf course? Who cares whats shape its in, just show me where the hole is and and I'll get it in.... EDIT....Oh yeah, I shoot in the low/mid 80's. [This message has been edited by chipbgt (edited 08-13-2000).] smokin1 08-13-2000, 05:33 PM I am a professional..teaching, not tour. Not working at it for a living right now, but it's good for a few $ in a nassau now and again... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Gutter Ball 08-13-2000, 05:46 PM I play once in awhile. It really sucks being left handed :/ All the courses are designed for right handers! Heh, I usually shoot 136 for 18 holes http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I just go for the fun. I never know which club to use for what distance. All I know is 1 iron for tee off, 3-5 iron to get it closer, PW for sand and putter for putter http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Everybody keeps telling me to use drivers to tee off, dunno why..I can almost drive it as far as they can http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif daveleau 08-13-2000, 06:44 PM Our Charleston Municpal course is $5 after 4:00 which works out great over the summer. Great for the hacker. (IE me) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Dave brandon184 08-13-2000, 08:32 PM Well, The course I go to is within one of the 20 top ranking courses in Western Canada.. And within 5 of Southern Saskatchewan. I'm a member there, so that helps a LOT. You have to buy whats called a "gold card" which is a $3000 one time fee. That is per person. Then you have to buy/renew a membership each year which costs $900.. But its worth it, since I go out everyday, sometimes twice a day... Whether it is with friends, family members, etc... What also comes in very handy, is a family range pass, which allows unlimited amounts of balls to shoot on the driving range.. That also has to be renewed each year for a smaller fee of around $500, I believe... But its well used. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif - Brandon smokin1 08-13-2000, 10:08 PM Are you trying to impress someone?...hold on...hmmm...nope..didn't work.... stylin19 08-13-2000, 10:55 PM brandon184 Par for your course is a 78 ? and you are shooting 73's ?? How long is the course ? What exactley is your handicap? scratch ? minus handicap ? _____________________________________ Guy & his wife ( both scratch golfers ) playing this dogleg right. Husband's tee shot nestles inside a barn. He wants to take a drop with penalty and play on. His wife opens the barn doors and says, you have a clear shot to the green, you can make this shot. Husband doesn't want any part of it, but his wife convinces him to try. He takes a three iron and try's to hit a knock down. He gets it up a little, the ball hits a cross beam, ricochets back and hits his wife right between the eyes that kills her. He is so distraught, he gives up the game for ten years. He marries a woman, who is a scratch golfer, and he finally takes up the game again. New wife, same course same hole, same tee-shot. His is adamant about taking the drop and a stroke, but his new wife opens the barn doors and says "you have this shot in your bag, you can make this". Husband starts to tremble at the thought of this happening all over again. He tells his wife "Ijust can't do it! I'm afraid the same thing will happen now, as happened the last time I tried to played this hole this way" His wife asks "What happened the last time ?" Husband says " I double bogeyed this hole" [This message has been edited by stylin19 (edited 08-13-2000).] jjsole 08-14-2000, 07:32 AM I just started playing this year. I've been to the range and had a couple of lessons. Right now, instead of paying 13 cents a ball at the range (which added up after doing it 3-4x a week), I bought this practice ball swing thing - sort of like a little 1' hangman arm with a ball hanging from it by a tether- and I practice my swing in the back yard with it. I'm just trying to get myself used to the swing and develop some golf coordination, so I'm fine doing this for now. I'll hit the greens next year. I've been wanting to learn for a long time, but knew I'd have to wait until I was ready to make an 'emotional' commitment first, and want to take my time so as to make it more palatable when I finally go out on a course. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif **EDIT** Oh, yeah, anyone recommend any instuctional golf videos? I know there are a ton out there. Cost for the day? $20 each :green fees $12 bus $5 Prizes $3, Booze :heaps more! Good Golfing, skai dgardner 08-15-2000, 06:42 AM I dont play the game!!! But I drive the car, surperb car, absolutly great!!! ~Dave~ dexmax 08-15-2000, 06:51 PM I love the car too, although it doesn't have the power of a Ferrari, its still fun to drive. I play some golf, but not often due to a busy shed. But i do drive some shots about 2 a month. Nathan 08-15-2000, 07:07 PM I usually shoot in the low 90's for 18. If I got out more, I'd be in the low 80's and maybe in the high 70's. I'm a better golfer than a bowler. I use to bowl in handicap tournaments. Then we had scratch tournaments. We had a $500.00 shot on Friday nights after 10:00 P.M. along with some $20.00 ones that kept the evening interesting. I hit some of the big ones too. Made for a nice dinner and other things for the weekend. That was a lot of fun too. brandon184 08-15-2000, 07:11 PM smokin1... What exactly are you talking about? What exactly am I trying to present as impressive? The fact that I can golf at a course like that.. Or that there is one like that? The main reason I even golf here, is because my mom owns and operates the course. I got that wrong, stylin19... Its 4 Par 5's, 10 Par 4's, 4 Par 3's... 72 Is par over all 18.. 37 is par on the front nine. There will soon be 9 additional holes, as of next summer. - Brandon ILC 08-15-2000, 07:46 PM I love it...suck at it, and normally dont have time to play it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ILC smokin1 08-15-2000, 09:29 PM Brandon..I could care less where you golf... I had just never heard of a layout such as you first described..it is curious how you can get the holes and pars for them at a course owned by Mommy so wrong.... brandon184 08-15-2000, 10:00 PM smokin1... I was thinking of another course she owned, up until 4 months ago. If you don't like this thread - don't visit it. I wanna put some money down -------------------------------------------- Actually scratch that, wouldn't want to start an argument. I would just like to point out I tryed to play golf once, spend about 45 mins on the first tee trying to hit the ball, not my game I think, but golf buggies are fun!!! ~Dave~ tonym 08-16-2000, 04:12 PM I love to golf... but I always hit the little windmill http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif . As for that other kind of golf, if it was all driving and no putting, I'd be Tiger! I can hit 'em long and straight, but I can't putt for anything! So, I usually cut out the middle-man and go straight to the driving range!! Tony brandon184 08-16-2000, 04:14 PM I'm going to be working as a CPGA Professional at the proshop at this same course next (?) summer. I'm happy with the score but mad cause it lowers my handicap more than needed http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif guess I need to play more! brandon184 08-16-2000, 08:26 PM I catch your drift. I just finished a two day tournament today, and I shot 161 on all holes combined over the two days (18 holes per day) which is not good for me - at all. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Although, I did place second. - Brandon LiLRiceBoi 08-16-2000, 11:03 PM I love playing golf. I just wish it wasnt so expensive. I usually shoot in the 80's (18 holes) bdog 08-16-2000, 11:14 PM I am just getting into golf. I bought my first set of clubs today. I am going to go to the driving range tomorrow with some friends and try to learn. It seems like it is going to be fun. brandon184 08-16-2000, 11:22 PM bdog.. Golf is usually pretty bad for beginners, and if thats the case for you - don't sweat it! To become a good golfer, all you have to do is work closely on your game. Going out everyday is a great idea. I find, that if I don't go out for even 3 or 4 days, it can and does affect my game. Remember - the short game (putting, chipping) is an integral part of the game! Don't overlook it! - Brandon Mntsnow 08-17-2000, 12:01 AM Yep thats right Brandon! Remember - the short game (putting, chipping) is an integral part of the game! Don't overlook it! When I do play I stink at Driving down the fairway but I putt with the best of them http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (Me thinks it's all the putt-putt golf I play with the family!) lol I just keep telling myself that "putter's commercial slogan" Drive for show...Putt for dough! brandon184 08-17-2000, 12:06 AM Yeah! It doesn't matter if your first drive gets to the green. If you have to putt 6 times to get the ball in the hole, then you really hinder your score. My putting still needs a bit of improvement, thats why I've been spending less time at the driving range, and more time at the putting green. I golfed with a kid today who could putt it in the whole no problem from 20 feet away. I have to concentrate hard from 6 feet! But, I usually come close to the whole since I've learned to synchronize my chipping with my putting much better. But I think, overall, I'm having just a bad week golf-wise. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif - Brandon [This message has been edited by brandon184 (edited 08-17-2000).] U-96 08-17-2000, 03:05 AM hehe golf rubs me up the wrong way just like SUVs get krusty going. I don't have a problem with the regular amateur/hobby players, but Pro golf stretches the idea of "sport" as much as ice dance (I do concede there is skill involved), and seems afforded a prestige out of proportion to it's worth - especially by TV networks. Then again, I don't know if anywhere outside of Britain televises bowls, darts and snooker, so I can't really complain LOL! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif In my mind, it's no different to any other "ballistic" sport - rifle shooting, archery etc - none of which (due to the lack of pretty artificial landscapes, imagined tradition and elitist snobbery) attract money and TV audiences... ...and the fashion sense?! Oh the humanity! Brandon, if you succeed in your ambition (and I hope you do!), please retain some dress sense and steer clear of patterned sweaters http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif brandon184 08-17-2000, 05:44 PM Hey, I kinda like the clothes. The dress code where I'll be working, is pretty much just golf shirt and dress pants. Patterned sweaters? I rarely see that here.. Where, it is a bit more normal. Yet, on the odd occasion there will be a group of Seniors come in whereing those. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Really, I RARELY watch professional golf on TV. A big reason being, I can't stand Tiger! He really shows bad sportsmanship, and I can't stand people pouting when they screw their game up. I really haven't figured out who on earth he is trying to impress.. - Brandon SysOpt.com
