Hello-

I am upgrading to a new MB/CPU and was thinking of adding an additional fan or two to my computer case for better cooling.

Right now I have a case fan on the front of my case sucking air in, and have a smaller fan that for the moment is sitting free but I will make a hole for it to suck air in too.

Then I want to get an additional case fan to blow air out the back. This, along with my PS fan (which blows air out, right?) should suffice (along with the CPU fan)

My question is, All the case fans I have now end in the standard Hard Drive-type power connector. I see on my motherboard there is a newer type of power connector- a three pin header simliar to that of a jumper block.

As it stands, my fans all hook up onto the same line and so I have this pretty long chain of plastic power connectors. Is there any way that I can get a converter or something so that I can convert the standard power connectors into the 3-pin type? This way I won't have long chains of connectors or power cords crisscrossing my case.

Any information is appreciated

Thanks

Ruahrc

oh dang. that is 3 pin to 4 not 4 to 3. sorry
You can buy some new fans though. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The third pin is for tachometer speed sensing. You don't really need it. The middle pin is +12V (red). If the fan doesn't run, reverse the connector.

The "cable guy" at the computer flea markets probably has adapters, and maybe Radio Shack.

I agree with blowing air in from the front and blowing it out at the back. Whoever built power supplies with fans that push the PS heat into the case had to be stupid. I've reversed a few of those too.

I've often found that those stupid PSU which suck air in come with cheap nasty cases that neglect to put the fan in at the bottom on the front which sucks air in. Therefore there thinking you'll have a fan on your cpu that will do, we'll worry about our PSU overheating lets put a fan sucking air in!!!
Or there a company which employs monkey to put the PSU's together and the monkeys just put the fan in, whihc is pretty impressive for a monkey if you think about it!!
