Well I don't know about GTE as I'm w/PacBell but with DSL the further away from the switching station the lower the speeds you'll get.

There's a pretty good broadband speed test here, and using the "verbose" you can see if you're settings can be tweaked for maximum performance.

But I experience occassional slow downs also, depending on your ISP could be working on something, weather, etc.

'Course, that's a pretty big discrepancy, perhaps a call to their DSL tech support is in order too. Get them to investigate.

Thank you SoCalgal for replying. I have been with flashcom since march, and have gotten my speeds up to 750 down and 112 up most of the time. But 4 weeks ago, the speeds just died. Ive been calling flashcom, only to be getting the run around. Getting fed up =) Thanks...just wondering if anyone were experiencing troubles...anyhow thank you very much!

I have been using GTE dsl for a year and a half with a local ISP selling me the service tho, had a major mega slowdown like your are experiencing awhile back, GTE bent over backwords to assist me, even went as far as running new wiring completely to the house from the substation, got a killer signal spot on 768/128, add my ISP and it all fell to the ground, found out he had oversold the "tier" he was on, relying on everyone not always being online, which needless to say, didnt work...added another tier and all is well, for now...

Thank you KingOfPain for your response. I think i will give GTE a call and see what they could do. Everytime i call flashcom, they just tell me that the guy that is in charge of the gte network isnt there, maybe gte will answer my questions. Thank you very much for your responses everyone...
