Well, after man years of buying things online, trading with other people, and buying from here and other forums, I got burned. I can't remember if the user I bought this from was in here or on another page (like anandtech or something), but I thought I would alert you all.
**edit** I purchased a Celeron 366 processor with a Golden Orb for $50 plus shipping from **edited name** of **edited city/state**. His email is: *edited home email*. If you know this guy, please let me know. I need to get a hold of him. I have his address, but I can't find his phone number. (Still looking into it, will call 411 if I need to).

I already sent him 5 or 6 emails stating that I will be contacting the USPS for possible mail fraud and contacting my bank to see what I can do with them (sent him a check from my online bank account--even sent him an extra $5 because I took a little longer to pay!).

Here is my question, I tried this processor in an LX board and two or three BX motherboards. It won't even post or beep or anything. I pried off the GORB only to find that the processor looks like hell. Can you tell me: is the celeron 366 PPGA supposed to have a copper top or did he lap it? I thought they were supposed to have a silver case on top of the processor, but this one is solid copper and looks like a grinder or something was used on it because the endges are worn down more than the top (rounded edges). The black part of the processor also looks worn down and I can see copper showing around those edges. So, he told me it wasn't overclocked, but this sure as hell points to some re-working of the CPU and possible OC'ing.

What do you think?

Paul

Hey i think i can shed some light on this situation.

The person you are asking about is killerbug who is an ultimate member or senior on this forum. I think you and him have a misunderstanding i just recently sent a money order out to buy something from him and i feel i will recieve it because he seems very creditable i even checked out his seller rating at elitehardware. Also he told me that he is on vacation so that is probely why he hasn't answered any of you emails.

Thanks for shedding some light into this situation. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Processor still doesn't work though.
Thanks

Paul
edit:
whats wierd is I did a search for the item with the systopt search for the title of my email (which was pulled right out of the post) and the search didn't find it. But, I just did find the link by doing a search on Killerbug's name http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/001203.html

Had i known it was KB, I probably would not have gotten all testy about it. I trust him. Just miffed I guess that this thing isn't quite what I expected it to be.

Hmmm, that might be the 366 I sold Killerbug a while back (then again it might not be). I remember lapping it so that there was some copper showing. I have done this several times and do a good job of it only using very fine sandpaper. When I am finished lapping, the chip and heatsink are so smooth that they will actually stick together. The lugs on some of those chips are pretty uneven from the factory and lapping makes them run a lot cooler. The chip worked fine when I sent it to him. I tried running it at 550 and it wouldn't do it so I sold it to K-Bug the day I got it. Anyway, I have done several trades with him and he is a good trader. He gets busy sometimes, but don't worry as I am sure he will work something out.

I didn't know you had changed your email in the profile. Many people use hotmail and yahoo mail on these types of message boards to keep from getting spam on their real accounts. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

PS: I will reply to your email's tonight.
