Can't decide whether the $40 difference for the dc280 is worthwhile. Supposedly, the DC-280 has video capture, while the 240 doesn't. Can any owners of it verify this?

Here's a great place to get information and shop: Digital Camera Resource (http://www.dcresource.com).

The major difference is resolution ~ 1280x960 vs. 1760x1168.

Oh, and be aware the difference is more than $40. You can get the DC240 for $299 at Office Depot (just have them ring it up on their computers) or for about $250 at Office Max by pricematching against Office Depot.

I'm thinking about doing this myself. I bought the DC240 at Office Depot for $250 about 8 months ago, but have since lost the camera and need something to replace it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif I was thinking about the Olympus Coolpix 950, but at $650 vs. 250, I'm not sure I want to lay that kind of cash down.

Gents, I've had a couple or 4 digital cameras and have used a couple of more at work. If you are looking at saving a bunch of money and don't plan on making 8x10" glossy photos from the camera, may I suggest the Poloraid Fun flash? Maybe you've seen my comments earlier. The resolution is far better than any 640x480 camera that I've seen previously. If web usage is the primary point of use, give one of these a try. At Wal-Mart for $99.00 you can take it back hassle free, here in Ga anyway.. lotsa luck , DrVette

The 155% Low Price Guarantee does not apply to the following product categories: printers, digital photography, computer peripherals, scanners, networking devices, personal digital assistants, electronic organizers, notebook & desktop computers, memory, CD-ROM, hard drives and software. For these product categories OfficeMax.com will match the advertised price of an identical item but will not give you a credit for 55% of the difference.

That's what I found on the 155% pricematch policy of officemax.com. I assume it's the same as the store policy... No?

EDIT>>> Just called the local store here and they said it still applies.

If you have an Office Depot near you, just walk in and ask them to scan the DC240. Odds are pretty good it will show up as $299 (regardless of what it says on the sticker).

Well, it worked for a buddy of mine this week. Sometimes, you can actually take advantage of the oft-found managerial stupidity if you don't tip them off ahead of time.

But even at $300, the 240 is well cheaper than the 280.

I can't find the DC240 for $300 anywhere. It retails for $599 at officedepot.com and officemax.com. The cheapest is $411 at Buy.com, and even with my $30 off... it's nowhere near $300...

Anyway, I'm going for the DC280 @ ~$415 after all my coupons... at Buy.com... about to hit Process... the big $415 process button.

The Coolpix 950 is made by Nikon.

I'm giving serious thought to a Sony, just for the convenience of disk storage. I borrowed a friend's and it's really nice to not bother with cables and software. I think Sony is crazy to force the Memory Stick versions on the market.

Most interesting is the CD1000, soon to be realeased mini-CD version of the FD95. The CD stores more than 100 times a floppy's capacity.

I've found the detailed reviews at Megapixel.net (http://www.megapixel.net/html/issueindex.html) very helpful in selecting a camera. Of the higher-end consumer cameras (non-professional,) the final choice usual ends up being either a Nikon or an Olympus. But in the $300 range there is one that is said to be outstanding. The Fuji FinePix 1400.

Look at the "reveiw by resoultion" selections. They directly compare the cameras.
