Greetings Everyone, It seems that Sybergen wants to compete with Zone Labs in the personal software firewall market so they are offering their firewall for free.
Check out this url for a free firewall. http://www.sybergen.com/products/shield_ov.htm
I have ZoneAlarm and I am happy with it but I would be interested in opinions on the Sybergen product.

Thanks for that SDT - I will load it on my ginnypig machine and post results. Can't hurt to have alternatives http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks Grunt, I'm interested to see how it shapes up compared to ZoneAlarm.

Thanks for the info. There might be some issues with Win2k sp1 with ZA, and this might be a good alternative. I wonder how it'll stack up on Steve Gibsons security port test!

(just clicked the link. cool interface -must be good!)

Let's see, Supply and Demand...
does this mean the price of ZoneAlarm will now go down?????????????

Not!

I am curious how Sybergen stacks up to ZoneAlarm, I've grown quite accustomed to being Stealth, nice to have an alternative to try though.

Thanks for the link!

Hmmm... Works with W2K too. Thanks for the post, SDT, that may be worth checking out.

I notice that Steve Gibson has a review on it but that it is a little dated (version 1.0). The review mentions the lack of ability to control outbound applications and the info on the Sybergen website for version 2.x says that it does monitor outbound communications. I hope that Steve does a review on the current version.

SDT: Thanks for the link. Been using Zone Alarm since it came out. Interesting Sybergen
application is twice as large as ZA, Would be nice if it was twice as good http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Zone alarm gives me stealth and this new one gives me closed only and my nic # also is available...something the Zone does not let out..I for one am not happy with it because it does not block all that Zonealarm does..at least not here
