Hi guys and gals. Has any of you running Excel had this problem. I'm thinking bad ram module. Error as follows:

The instruction at "0x30210d61" referenced memory at "0x6e49206l". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the application
Click on CANCEL to debug the application

This is on a SUNSPARC unix workstation while running WindowsNT. It's only happening when I try to open a link to a certain file. It was working this morning.

Thanks in advance.

MrEd ~ What type of file were you trying to open?

Do you have outdated or more than one copy SHELL.DLL or COMMDLG.DLL

socalgal- It's a Microsoft Excel file (.xls)
What it is, is this. I have one main spreadsheet that compiles information from 10 other spreadsheets. When I load them one at a time, (which is another story altogether) and get to a certain one, I get this error. Since I'm at work, I just log out, and log back in picking up a different server. The drive the files are on are on a specific server, which is where i think the problem is originating from. When I log into this other server, instead of getting this error message, It just locks up. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Do you have any Ideas about this. Like I said, I think it's the RAM, but not 100% sure.

are you autoformatting that spreadsheet? try here.. support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q159/8/63.asp (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q159/8/63.asp)

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you click AutoFormat on the Format menu, select a format, and
click OK, the following problems may occur:

With Microsoft Windows 95, your computer may stop responding. You may have to press
CTRL+ALT+DEL or restart your computer.
If the worksheet is in a Microsoft Office 97 binder running on Microsoft Windows 95, you may receive
the following error message:

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at
014f:3011e160.

With Microsoft Windows NT, you may receive any of the following error messages:

System Process - Out of Virtual Memory

Your system is running low on virtual memory. Please close some
applications. You can then start the System option in the Control
Panel and choose the Virtual Memory button to create an additional
paging file or to increase the size of your current paging file.

-or-

Not enough memory.
Continue without Undo?

-or-

Not enough memory.

If the worksheet is in a Microsoft Office 97 binder running on Microsoft Windows NT, you may receive
the following error message:

An application error has occurred and an application error log is
being generated.

excel.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x30107131

After receiving the above error message, if you close the Microsoft Office 97 binder without saving it,
you may receive this error message:

BINDER.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x77b4f8ba" referenced memory at "0x00007fc8".
The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the application.

CAUSE

These problems may occur if you click AutoFormat on the Format menu, select a format,
and click OK when an entire worksheet (65536 rows by 256 columns) is selected.

WORKAROUND

To prevent these problems from occurring, make sure that you select only the specific
range that you want to format before you click AutoFormat on the Format menu.

~ I'll keep looking.

Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS
support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q167/0/79.asp (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q167/0/79.asp)
In Microsoft Excel 97, when you do any of the following

You open a workbook that contains formulas that are linked to cells in other workbooks.

-or-

You enter a formula that links to a cell (or cells) in another workbook (or workbooks).

-or-

You close a workbook.

you may receive the following error message:

Not enough memory.

In addition, cells that contain formulas that are linked to other workbooks may return the
#REF! error value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if formulas in your workbook are linked to more than 16,375 unique cells
in any one worksheet in a closed workbook. For a more detailed description of this limitation,
see the "More Information" section in this article.

here's another one but for 124 charts!

I'm sorry you had to type so much, but those don't apply here. The cells are actually grouped into ten sections, each section having a spreadsheet formula reference, and arrayed. Sorry, no autoformating here. Thanks, I havn't found anything yet either.

That's okay.
I couldn't find a thing. I'll just let sysadmin take care of it. I was just trying to alleviate some of thier burden. I put a ticket number in for them to look at it. Thanks for the help.
