Senecadan NDC 08-04-2000, 08:15 AM It's best to have hard drives on the same IDE channel. Hooking up a hard disk and a CDROM or any other slower device on the same channel as the hard drive will make a bottleneck. IDE frequencies usually follow the slower device. KAknight 08-04-2000, 02:13 PM Make sure you have the red thread down the side of the cable facing the side the power goes in. spark25 08-05-2000, 07:17 AM Yes,slowest device sets the speed on the IDE channel, hopefully your HDD is faster than your CD-ROM,if you put them on the same channel, it won't be. Jonty 08-05-2000, 11:58 AM Thanks for the advice! In fact I've just installed it (a Quantum Fireball 26GB) and have made it the primary slave. Even though I say it myself I'm quite pleased with myself as I have never installed a HDD before and this was an OEM version with no instructions or anything. Its working nicely even as I write this! You know the hardest thing about the install - getting some screws to hold it down! I had to make a couple of visits to the local computer store for screws! SysOpt.com
