http://computingcentral.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest.asp

My cable, when downloading from some of the big boys, has sustained about 400k a sec. Usually, around 100k.

Ok, prepare yourself guys! You ain't seen nothing yet! I have the fastest connection possible where I live!!!
When i'm connected to a good site, I can get as high as a WHOPPING 5.6kb a sec!!!
But thats only if I am lucky http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

The speeds can be so random, because there are so many variables to consider. Your bandwidth, theirs. Your connection, theirs. Ba blah ba blah
I average 150k/sec on semi-large sites with a cable modem. But I can get as low as 13k/sec from pitiful one.
Highest I have seen transfered is somewhere near 400. Thats a rare case though.

My Highest SUSTAINED transfer rate is 824kb/sec, downloading the Diable Demo....

That was from happypupy

3709.1 Kbps

http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

454.5 K bytes/sec

Of course it's not always like this. But it is on average around the 150's.

This will check uploading and downloading http://www.dslreports.com/r3/dsl/stest/

Your download speed :
3138504 bps, or 3138 kbps.
Browsers would show :
about a 383.1 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed :
846262 bps, or 846 kbps.

Hello,
Geez... You are all VERY lucky! Hopefully I will get ADSL soon.

- Max I have ever gotten is 12K/sec on text ONLY files (VERY RARE)

- Max for other files os about 4.5.

- A good day is 3.6K/sec.

- 95% of the time I have a whopping 3.2K/sec average.

3.2K/sec isn't too slow... not util you've downloaded 6 programs over 100 megs EACH! (One of which was at 2.5K/sec during the middle of Saturday http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) Plus another 1.5 gigs of small files over a period of 1.5 years.

Thank You,
~cpr

The only thing that I hate about those speed test programs is that they use servers far away from me! uugh! And, if it were my guess, many many people are using that test as we speak. For something like that, a DS3 is pretty small for people testing 1-2meg systems out here.

Anyone heard of a semi-newer breed of DSL called Etherloop? It's pretty sweet, I've been running it from our cooperate office for about a year now. It's acts exactly like an Ethernet, but your at DSL speeds. Maximum sustained bandwidth from one of OUR servers is around 200k/sec; and that is 3 miles away from the other end.

They've been working on the cable in my neiborhood, and since about about a month ago I've been getting an average of over 600KB/sec d/l from my newsgroups. Web downloads have been peaking around 600KB/sec. but averaging much less.

600KB/sec = 4800kbps

Well,

I got cable connection, and the highest I normally got, was I think 320Kb/s.

But a few days ago, I was d/l'ing a movie, and suddenly I pressed pause, and then resume.
Suddenly the d/l speed was 4400Kb/s, dropping fast, but it took about a minute, before it was back at 260Kb/s

I was surprised, if ya wanna see the screenshot, I can mail it to ya, since I can't post it.(no homepage)

I must have a router problem to their east coast server. Seems that I can transmit ALOT faster than I can receive.

the best i have ever gotten was 950 kilobytes/sec
the best sustained was about 500 kilobytes/sec

i use DUmeter to track my downloads as the bandwidth tests are too random for me

from the computingcentral test at 7pm on a friday:

Your line speed:
2318.2 Kbps
284.1 K bytes/sec

Your line speed:

1000 K bytes/sec

Thats what it says right now, but I have had it say 9800 or so Kbps

Well heck, I've got a slow route to the computing central's server too. I get

521 Kbps
63.8 K bytes/sec

I think the best solution for testing your speed is to find a local FTP on your ISP's server and use it to test. The internet's speed can vary drastically. Especially in my case!!

from dslreports.com
Your download speed : 717961 bps, or 717 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 87.6 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 119402 bps, or 119 kbps.

and from msn.com speed test
Your line speed:

735.1 Kbps
90.1 K bytes/sec

suposed to have a 768down/128up adsl line so thats pretty close

Me I'm lucky to get 4.8 a sec. Gotta love dial-up. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

A buddy of mine is running Mindspring DSL. He d-loaded Linux Mandrake at 1.8 meg a sec. during the whole duration. Whether that is true or not, well.......... who knows.
