how the hell does so many undesirable people get my hotmail email adress

i am sick and tyred of all the undesirable people getting hold of my email adress.
i currently have aprox 128 blocked senders in my hotmail email account.
what gives here, i mean were do these people get off constantly sending me bl&#dy Cr#p like this every day. I mean i get about 3 to 5 new ones each day. some include free XXX and you know what else.
is any body else experiencing this.
Iv just about had enough of this filth and i am contemplating the download of some of those email bombing programs that are out there and replying to them with that.
does anybody else get this kind of treatment from hotmail.
are you sick of cleaning out pages of sh#t emails cause i sure am.

yeah... one of my hotmail accounts has the same. except i have over 1K in block senders. it's just so fricken ridiculous.

the funny thing, though, is that i have two other accounts that don't get ANY junk mail at all, yet my main one gets about 5 or so per day.

i've contemplated doing the same thing, too, mong_2, at times. unfortunately, they really don't care, so it'd be a completely futile effort.

i've contacted hotmail about it, but they never responded (to any of my approxamately 20 emails). i don't get that, either.

hmmmm..... just something to ponder upon and think what there is to be done.

I have contacted the BBB and they seem to be willing to handle it if you do a bit of the leg work. I had one spamer mail me daily with a phone # that I turned in to the BBB along with the info I found from the #.

I think you can avoid this to a degree as this used to happen to me,not so much the XXX stuff,just general ****!!What i found is that when you sign up on-line for whatever,99%of the time at the end of your application there is a list of pre-checked boxes that if left checked will sign you up for whatever the offer is....Uncheck them if you are not interested.Honestly,this may not be the definate source but i went from recieving at least 6 unwanted messages a day,to recieving none.Every now and then i let one slip and hey presto more junk mail!!

By leg work I meant finding as much info as possible about the person spaming you by looking up IP address and finding out exactly who it is sending it to you.

You can block addresses on aol, but once your name gets on a list, it comes from everywhere.
Telemarketting managers have been able to get lists from other telemarketters and even banks for a long time, even tho the latter is illegal. The same appears to be true online.
If you have a profile for your s/n, there is apparently software that checks for people with profiles who are currently online.
Isn't it wonderful what software can do to one's privacy these days?
One thing I've done before is just let email fill up (lost track my password!) and they get tired of deleting the same name after a while...

I have a yahoo account and do not get any of that ****. Normally when I fill out something and I don't want to be contacted, or even put on a list, I use "user@napster.com" and that seems to be a good diversion.

I had the same problem a while back with Mindspam- er, Mindspring, and here's what I did:
Go to one of the free email services (I use birdmail.com) and get an account.
Give this address to friends, relatives, etc.
Give your Hotmail address to all the other shmucks you dislike, and also use it when you order something online. Then, who cares if it fills up with spam, it'll just be a burden on Hotmail's server.

I've had my birdmail address for quite a while & never got a single spam in it. Hotmail is overrun with spam, probably because they sell your email address to telemarketers, which is a politically correct term for spammers.

I dont agree. I have had two Hotmail accounts for two years now. My primary account I use strickly for private matters and I get no spam at all. My second account I give out to vendors and web sites that require your address to enter. This one is bloated with spam and I am ready to kill it and create a new one. If Microsoft sold my address to marketing firms then they forgot my personal account.

I think that it is hotmail itself. I have a yahoo, excite, and mail.com account. I don't get any spam. I also have yahoo and mail fwd directly to my home address. I never opened a hotmail account and always recomend to my friends not to get one. I recomend mail.com as you can change the @xxxx.com to several different names so there is a lot to choose from.

If you think about it, hotmail is free; even though it's run by Microsoft, they still try to make a profit off of it.

loul makes a very good point about sign-up forms. I've also thought that sending unsub replies could possibly clue spammers that they've found a valid address, ergo more spam. I've recently taken to filtering spam directly to the trash (Eudora) and have noted a decrease. I must admit though that I never seen anything like what mong and others have reported here. The way I handle it is that I sign up for a "bogus" Hotmail account. When I say bogus, this is the account that I put on things that I may sign up for on the internet. That way you just check it for any replies from valid people. Delete the rest.

I only give out my primary email address to friends. If I buy something from buy.com or a vendor I give them my bogus address. Places you do business with seem more likely to sell their lists to someone else.

I get a few messages and I have not given out my address to anybody, SO -- I visited the Options and then Block Sender selection area and I noticed that I had a check in the Hotmail Members directory. When I signed up I did not know what that was for (still don't) so I unchecked it just to see what happens. However the horse might already be out of the barn. We shall see.

i have the same problem with hotmail account I got about average of 20 junkmail per day and ever since I blocked out about 200 of them I still get 10 per day and new one are popping up... it look like I'll have to delete this account and create a new one? maybe i'll get a new cleaner account with no spam?

I used to post to usenet with an anti-spam reply address - user@domain(nospam).com

Once by accident I changed my config and put in my real address, user@domain.com, since then the amount of junk mail has literally exploded! I believe there must be a complex web of mail lists being exchanged and combined into ever larger lists out there. I've even received adds for BUYING mailing lists!

If you think of it, once your address is on a list, it has an infinitely greater chance of multiplying its presence onto other lists than of disappearing. The only solution will be to change e-mail address regularly I think.
