I got a new heat sink and fan for my GeForce DDR and I'd like to know your thoughts on a attachment device using the pushpin holes on the PCB. I don't want to use thermal tape or adhesive because I think thermal compound works better. So far I've got it attached using 14g copper wire bent through the heat sink fins with a circle bent at the ends. I then attached the heat sink with zip ties. One through each of the circles and through the holes in the PCB and attached another zip tie to each one on the back side and tightened them evenly. Can you think of a better way to accomplish this. Maybe something other than zip ties to secure the heat sink to the GPU? Some other way of making a bracket to mount the heat sink? Thanks for any thoughts.

Have ya give thermal glue a thought????

I have a voodoo banshee on which I wanted to mount a different heatsink and fan, cause the ones that came with it, were ****.

So I used thermal glue and it works fine.

But be warned, once you glue it on, you'll probably not get it off without damaging the chip.

Just wondering, why is this in Brainstorming session?

I thought brain storming was about figuring out solutions to problems or new ways of doing something.

I have a Bass drum pedal fixed with zip ties and it gets really abused. I'd stick with the Zip ties but you might try JB-Weld. You can get it from a hardware store. Talk about thermal you can use the rest of the tube to fix a crack in an engine block on a Bulldozer just like the city of Dallas TX.

Please don't try this at home!

JBWeld... egads!

I honestly don't know the thermal conductivity of JBWeld, but being able to withstand heat and conducting heat are two entirely different things...

I hope you were kidding stevesherman...please, tell me you were kidding.
