Forgot to add http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gifoes EIDE allow you to read/write more types of media on a CD, in other words more flexibility?

Its a generalization now as nothing is currently made to support IDE that isn't EIDE also. It is now knowm as simply ATAPI, which is the same thing.

Nowadays, to be modern you have mostly Ultra ATA or Ultra IDE which is EIDE/IDE/ATAPI that supports UDMA2/33 or UDMA2/66.

Confusing enuff?

In other words, just buy it, if its 4X write then its probably UDMA2/33 anyhow!

The Yamaha models are highly recommended, in part because of their 2Mb buffers.

I would recommend the mitsumi cdrw drive, which also has a 2mb buffer, and records at 4x w/ cdrs hehe....however it is not ultra 33, it says mode 3...ehhe...oh well...it's an awesome deal at about 160 bucks on pricewatch... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I love mine

Roy,your right, Yamaha seems to make some good "burners".I know their reputation for excellent audio equipment(they even make very good piano's!)
HOTRODk62,$160 bucks?Gonna check it out...thanks!
NutCase,if you have time to "burn",go with an Atapi(EIDE/IDE).It's the cheapest, but uses your system at the same time.If you need to use your system while "burning",you have to buy a SCSI CDR or CDRW.This is much more expensive, and you may have compatibility problems with your existing CD and HD....check back on this thread,we're here to help.

I've been doing some shopping since this thread began. I'm now planning on buying the Yamaha 4416E - about $220 complete on Pricewatch. It writes and rewrites at 4x!
