What do you think? I have 192MB PC100 CAS 2 Micron SDRAM. Do you think it wil run @133 CAS 3? Thanks.

it just might

what is the cache speed of the ram
look at the last number on the ship

PC-100 8ns/7ns
PC-133 7ns/6ns
PC150 6ns/5ns
PC-166+ 5ns
i havent seen faster memory but i think this is correct

are you saying if I have SDRAM 6ns (PC100) it's very possible I could do those speeds? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

If so I should try this ram out if I were to go from celeron to AMD or PIII right? Sound like it may save me some money. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

yes ofcourse you should try it
if it works you will have saved yourself quite a bundle
i once had a stick off belive it or not PC-100 and it made it all the way up to 155mhz
and this was a generic stick

Well, I went to Crucial/Micron's web site and found a data sheet on my ram based on the part # (MT48LC8M8A2-8E) and it says it's only rated up to 125mHZ@CAS 3 and that it is 6ns. They list their PC133 as 5.4ns. Here's the link, it's a PDF file. http://www.micron.com/mti/msp/pdf/datasheets/64MSDRAM.pdf Here's another one that breaks it down in DIMM sizes. Mine are 64MB ea. http://www.micronsemi.com/datasheets/sdramds.html Thanks for the reply. I guess when I upgrade to a P3 Coppermine I'll find out if it will run at 133 or not for sure.

there is something wierd with those 125mhz in not really sure what it was again

if you have 6ns PC-100 it is wery likely that it will make 133 or even higher
but then again one can never really know

Check it out:

Thanks Scott, looks like there's a chance I won't have to buy new RAM. I wonder, is it bad for the ram to run higher than it's rated? Basically, will it burn up or die earlier? Thanks.

wery unlikely http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
