Bonehead 07-31-2000, 03:29 PM I want to send a picture of WCPUID running on the desktop so that I can send the screenshot by email to a friend (I want the screenshot to open it by itself when reading the mail). Like to know how. Techie Dude 07-31-2000, 03:50 PM Here you go mate, got just the thing you need. It`s a freeware program to grab screens and windows. You can get it from: www.phoenix.theantcolony.com/iwg122a5.exe (http://www.phoenix.theantcolony.com/iwg122a5.exe) You might just want to grab a single window, so this will be usefull. When you save your picture, save it as a .jpg. When it asks about the compression ratio, select something like 25%. The picture will be ok, but reduced in size (file size, not the actual dimensions of it). As for emailing it, use Outlook Express if you have it. I think this would be the simplest way. Just create a new mail type your message, and the select the insert menu. On that menu, select picture, and then browse for the .jpg you saved earlier. This will insert the pic into your email, and will be automatically displayed when they receive it...... I think that`s all covered now, any probs, post again, and I`ll give you some more help. Phoenix Warthog 07-31-2000, 04:21 PM Or you could press the "Print Screen" key next to "F12" and take your screenshot that way. Go into a photo editor program (MS Paint even) and paste it. Save it in a place that you'll remember and select it as an attachement when writing your email. If you just want to capture an individual window, simply crop the screenshot. Warthog Bonehead 07-31-2000, 05:31 PM Thanks. The little program should do the trick. But all my "Insert" options in Outlook are greyed out except the File Attachment option. I guess my Outlook Express (5.5) hasn't been fully installed. The Print Screen button doesn't make a file or anything, it doesn't seem to work (because I use WinME?). GroundZero3 07-31-2000, 07:07 PM hey bone i just tried it out and what you can try is push the print screen button then go into paint and paste. it will say the bitmap is to big or something just press yes. worked for me hey thanx for the tip warthog i was always wondering how the heck people printed out there desktops or copied to show other people. JaYsin geekgrl 07-31-2000, 07:41 PM Yep, just PRINT SCREEN button. No need for a program. Open in paint... there ya go. Warthog 07-31-2000, 09:23 PM yo Bone....did you see my post? I explained it in detail...very simple... Warthog Bonehead 08-01-2000, 07:30 AM Yes the PrintScreen function works afterall (paste is the magic word... well and Paint). But you need another program for making it a jpeg format (compression). I can only save as bmp with Paint and those are big files. So I use WinGrab 1.22 from TDude for now. [This message has been edited by Bonehead (edited 08-01-2000).] Techie Dude 08-01-2000, 02:09 PM Just worked out why the insert menu was grayed out..... This happens when your cursor is still in the Subject box. You can insert a file attatchment there. You need to click in the main box for editing your mail message. Pretty much like you would when using a word processor. As for the Print Screen function, I didn`t mention is, since you than have to load it into Paint, or some other software (which the user might not have). Using Wingrab makes it much easier, since you can just save your JPEG from there. BMP files tend to be quite large (probably around 2mb at least for a screen grab). You could get a JPEG down to about 20k if you needed too. One other reason was, if you only need a grab of a window, you can do it easily with WinGrab. Save`s all that cropping........ Anyway, glad I was of some use to someone. If ya need any more help, just ask http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Techie Dude (edited 08-01-2000).] qball 08-01-2000, 02:50 PM PrintScreen will get the whole screen, ALT + PrintScreen will copy the active window, FYI. To save the image in a user friendly format, get PaintShopPro shareware for some pretty nice image functionality. For the big boys, shell out the $700 for Photoshop (the king of image editors). Dave_H 08-01-2000, 03:55 PM Here is a great, (and free) program. Supports around 50 different formats. It also does a nice screen capture.
