Seriously dudes!

Is 640MB OF Ram Enough? Recently upgraded my Mobo to support 768mb of Ram. Had a 128mb dimm lying around, and managed to get 2x256mb dimms for 120 bucks.

Don`t ask where they came from http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Check out a screen grab (just to prove it) @
http://www.phoenix.theantcolony.com/screengrab.JPG

You might have to copy that to your browser, not sure!

Ok, I admit, the rest of my system needs upgrading. New 75GB HD this week, and new processor with the next month. Other bit`s include, 4x4x24 Burner, 6xDVD, Scanner, Tablet, Laser Printer, ATAPI Zip, 17" Monitor, 6.4BG HD, 3.2GB HD, 1.2 GB HD (Those Abit boards support a lot of devcices (4 IDE channels)). TV Tuner, crappy sound card (for now), AGP Voodoo3, 56k Flex Modem.........

Ummmmmm......I think thats it......

Only a 333Mhz PII at the mo, but will upgrade shortly.

LOL, **** puter costs me more than my car !

I have 320mb of ram installed but thats just because my old comp's ram was compat with my new one. WHat type of programs are you running, if you are playing games you wont need 640mb of ram, at least not for some time.

384, and don't see any real diff between 384 and 256. At least in Win98. Haven't done enough in 2000 to see if the NT platform is better at Ram like it's supposed to be.

Yeah, I agree with you guys there.....

Having this much ram doesn`t make too much difference, although in games I can push up the screen res to the next higher one. I did notice that I reboot much less now. The only thing that forces a reboot is when Explorer crashes.....

Let`s be honest, if someone offered you 512mb of ram for 120 bucks, you`d snap their arms and legs off........LOL

URL posted again (goto first message) for the scren grab I mentioned above.

Admin removed it, for my protection apparently. Didn`t know they cared so much http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I`ve edited the pic to blur out all my details, leaving just my computer spec there.

Hi,

My NT4 Server has 192MB SDRAM
My Gaming PC has 256MB SDRAM. It had 512MB for a while, but as I did not see any kind of improvement, I removed them !
My Test PC has 256MB SDRAM (taken from my Gaming PC)
My "PC-TV" has 128MB SDRAM
My Sony VAIO C1-XN has 64MB SDRAM (soon 128MB)

I've only got 96 meg of RAM in my gaming machine and 64 in my two laptops and PC. It doesn't make much sense to me to have more than that, since my gaming machine is only a K6-2 500. RAM is not my problem when games slow down. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My systems average 256 megs. As I didnt get much performance increase vs. the dollars to justify more.

If you have more than 256 MB RAM and you don't have a 21" monitor, I pity you.

Though getting 512 MB RAM for $120 isn't really a bad thing. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks to everyone that posted replies.

It`s good to know what sort of/how much ram people have......

Remember the time Bill said 640k was enough for anybody! I think that even if you don`t have a lot of ram, you quickly learn that 640k can never be enough for anybody, lol....

I`ve even had occasions when I`ve run out of ram........On Win98 of course!

My new laptop has 320MB of RAM! It boots up faster than any Windows 98 machine I've ever seen - takes 20-25 seconds to load Windows from switching on http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My current machine, a P133 (hey don't laugh, it still does everything I need except new games) has 64MB EDO SIMMS. I remember when I paid $100 for 32MB RAM. A few short months later, it became $50 for 32MB. So, i started out with 32MB, and later added 32MB more. All 4 slots filled.

Wow!

Didn`t expect so many replies (22 at last count). It`s kinda good to know what everyone had, and I can target for an average (which I think I`ve reached, and more, lol).

Thanks every one!

Ummmmmm........this is the Tech Discussion forum isn`t it?

It`s not a technical question, otherwise I would post it in Tech Support.

The Cummunity Forum os for talking about whatever you want.

I think my post here was justified, since it wasn`t a technical question, but I wanted some posts on a hardware issue.....

Dunno how you mind works mate, but if there was a problem with this being in the wrong forum, wouldn`t Administration tell me?
