If this has been brought up already, I apologize because I've been gone for a few weeks.

If/when Napster goes bye-bye:
Scour Exchange, iMesh and CuteMX can be used to search for audio, video and images. Gnutella and Freenet are "file agnostic" and can be used to share all file types.

What's the big deal? The RIAA is only focused on Napster. If/when Napster is forced to shutdown, can't we simply use other software to do the same job?

Don't get me wrong, I love Napster, but nobody is going to stop my from getting my mp3s over the internet.

I have installed iMesh and as far as I could tell it worked fine, but it was a little overused so...

Wow - I haven't been here in forever!

(my loss!)

so anyway, is there something wrong with Scour Exchange??? I just heard of it, DL'd it and set it up, and it will not connect. It just sits there forever requesting configuration information from server.

i went thru the new user setup stuff, and it never completed that either (although it is stored locally under 'options', i don't think it registered me.)

so is the server down or something??? has anyone had any trouble logging on since last night?

i downloaded Scour Exchange. it is at scour.com or scour.net. it is good. it is for audio, video, and images, not just music. it has about 40,000 people on at all times with about 10 terabytes of stuff. i have noticed that many downloads quit. it is alot like napster. i like it.

I read somewhere that the RIAA is now preparing to set their sights on Scour next.

It's eventually going to come down to a point where they are going to start suing users individually...

hehe....Chip - no thank you. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I am very picky when it comes to music, so I usually only like 1 or 2 songs on a given cd. For me, spending $17 or so for 1 or 2 songs is a rip off. Plus, I use my CD-ROM as my cd player (stereo is hooked up to comp). After I burn the songs into mp3 format, I have no need for the original cd anymore.

Well if they start sueing individuals then they should get together and file a suit against these companies for playing songs on the radio that they have paid money for on cd.Are there plans to stop playing music on radios? It all seems a waste of effort and it would also damage the differant bands reputations wouldn't it.
I tried imesh but dumped it when Napster stayed alive. It did seem to have a little more classic stuff on it .

I have over 400 songs thanks to napster. I don't think I've done the record companies out of any money, I wouldn't have gone out and bought any of the CDs just for the tracks I've downloaded. I may have recorded them off the radio or a friend though - perhaps they will start to prosecute people for owning a cassette deck next ?.

Infact I downloaded one track from Napster that I played to some friends and they went out and bought the album!!!!.
