I downloaded gator and was annoyed to find that the only way to install it is to be online because they don't give you the complete software program. It also does a scan of your cookies and god knows what else. It is a cool program in that it picks up the Id and password the first time and then you only have to click to insert your Id and password there after. I am using Zone Alarm so I could block all access after i install it but I have no clue what info it sends when you first sign up ??

Hi Jacob, If you want to make sure that you aren't being spyed on you can go to Optout.com and get the free software. I have that and I use Gator and it is safe to use. I haven't had any probs with it and have been using it for quite awhile.

Here's a recent thread on Gator asking basically the same question. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/007216.html
In a nutshell, if you're concerned about privacy, you'd be better off avoiding it.

I've used it many times and found nothing unsafe about it. The above post(s) seem to address security concerns, if that's your question.

Good luck.

I ended up installing it. I browse BigBigSavings.com and they use it over there. At first I didn't add a CC number. Then I got an internet CC that I only use online, So I'm not too worried.

I'm sorry to say but it seems that gator does spy on you. It collects data on what sites you go to and then calls home. I have ZoneAlarm and it is listed so it is calling out. Also I have never had a program were I needed to be online to install it. I tried to find the whole program but both zdnet and gator won't allow a full download. Just a small program which tells you need a larger program.
