cd-rom advice needed

I currently have a 24x max Mitsumi drive and am wondering if I will need to upgrade drives soon? I noticed they have 72x Cd-rom drives now, is this going to be truely utilized or is it just for speed freaks(no offense)? Also, I read in several places reccomending to buy a DVD drive over a Cd-rom, is there some new technology coming out that requires these? I might watch a few movies on DVD but I dont wanna spend 150 bucks just for that.

for now the 24x should be fine the 72x is for speed freaks like myself. The reason DVD is getting recommended is becuase soon the larger games will be released on DVD instead of the normal CRROM

all that a new CD-Rom will do for you is install faster, it won't make app's or games faster

DVD's can achieve CDROM speeds of 40x and there are already DVD games on the market...For long term purchase I would suggest the DVD route which can be attained for a little over $100 US and that is what a 72X Zen CDROM drive costs
