well, i really can't answer your first question, as i myself use Notepad. but...

just click here (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/faq.html#smilies) to read about putting the smilies in posts. also, i'd strongly advise you to read the FAQ (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/faq.html), as it contains the answers to some of your other questions, as well as much useful information.

I am not sure what you are wanting:
an editor or free web space.....
as far as editors go, I use Notepad. working from scratch is the only way to go http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif (at least for myself) and as far as publishing that page of yours on a free web space i suggest trying www.20m.com (http://www.20m.com) <- at least I hope that is the right link... i think it is

I've been playing with two http://perrycat.tripod.com/alondrasplace and http://perrycat.homestead.com/alondrasplace.html
tripod is simple not much flexability have to follow their pattern. they are having some problems at the moment. they are moving. homestead is much better. you do just about any thing. but takes patience, to start takes 10 min to down load the proggy. but so far I like it best. have to make notes to learn both systems. you dont have to know HTML. all automatic
