Apparently there is a patch firmware for toshiba DVD drives to make them region free. Available at www.firmware.com.bi (http://www.firmware.com.bi) Going to try it tonight on my SD-m1402 and i'll let you know if it goes smoothly.
Good news as that was the only real hassle with this drive. Now i need to go out and start purchasing some new movies!! any suggestions http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Are you sure, that it's your DVD drive is region restricted?
In my case, I have Toshiba DVD x6, the drive is a region free (it's checked according to BIOS version) and my PowerDVD softDVD player was region restricted untill I got a DVDGenie (region swapping utility). Now I have no problem of running DVD titles of just any region.

Is the 6x drive the SD-m 1202 as i think that drive is region free. The 1302 and 1402 however are region locked on the drive. So a patch must be applied to the bios for the drive AND a patch applied to the software. Even after flashing the drive with the new bios it is still necessary to change the software with something like DVDgenie.
tho now i am in exactly in the same position as you and very happy i am indeed about it!!
