Several sites offer "refurbs". Any good/bad past practice experiences to offer. Here's a couple of links to a CDR by Memorex and a few HD's by WD. thanx, DrVette =>> Memorex 4x2x6 Internal CDRW Drive (Model # CRW-2642) http://www.compgeeks.com/cgi-bin/details.asp?cat=NewArrivals&sku=205-2642 and =>> Caviar 20.5 Gigabyte UDMA/66 IDE Hard Drive, 2MB Buffer by Western Digital $92.00 http://www.compgeeks.com/cgi-bin/details.asp?cat=NewArrivals&sku=205-2057

I have bought alot of refurbed computer equipt. (printers, cdr, monitors, zip drive, etc...) and have had good luck. Although I have never bought through online. Its always been from a show or something like that. My philosphy is that if the price is right and the warranty is acceptable go for it.

actually i've had nothing but good luck with refurbished components. i also have never bought them online, but that's only because around where i live there are several local places to buy refurbs for very cheap if you want. i'd have to say that i probably wouldn't buy a refurbished hard drive, just because of the fact that that's pretty much a 'mission critical' component and those i don't take chances with.

best of luck!

hey there Doc..I've bought alot of refurbed and had no problems..most come with at least a 90 day warranty and some with 1 yr..my 'new' laptop is refurbed and with a 1 yr warranty it cost half of the same one brand new http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif saved me $800 and for $250 more I can get the same warranty as a new one...how can you go wrong??

4 Canon printers ~ all excellent!

I had occassion to speak with a Cannon Tech Rep ~ told me "the refurbs pass more strict QC than the new ones. They often are a whole new printer in the old case"!

I usually have no problems buying refurbished items http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif So far, everything I've bought is still going, or I was completely satisfied with it. I bought one of those HP monitors that someone posted in Steals and Deals awhile back and I'm VERY happy with it! Saved a bundle! But some things you shouldn't buy refurbed though...can't think of any off the top of my head at the moment http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm actually typing this on a refurbished monitor. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I won't buy Hard Drives or CD-ROMS refurbished, but that's about it. I have a cousin who works at Staples and he's told me that a lot of times customers who can't get things working right return them as 'broken.' The store later finds out that the equipment worked fine. Unable to sell it as new, it gets sold as refurbished.

A one week old refurbished scsi drive died on me, taking a controler with it, I don't like refurbished stuff anymore.

The monitor I'm using now, and have used for over five years was refurbished. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

No problems with re-furbished printers. I bought a bunch of xerox and lexmarks real cheap last year.
