Now you know how ignorant I really am, or did you figure out that already.. DrVette tekboy 07-15-2000, 09:11 PM Mac's won't run pc software because of the way the motorola processor addresses binary code. I don't know a whole lot about mac software but there are supposed to be programs that help a mac os read pc data. thekingofpain 07-15-2000, 09:18 PM Orange Micro makes a card that pops right in the Mac (depending on which Mac he has) the OS--W98 or W2K is right on it... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.orangemicro.com/page2.html daveleau 07-15-2000, 10:23 PM You can use virtual PC and it will run a version of Win98 on your Mac. It is slow but you could at least have the OS. Dave http://www.connectix.com/downloadcenter/demos.html thekingofpain 07-16-2000, 08:30 AM Virtual PC is WAAAY cheaper then the OrangeMicro cards as they have a processor built right onto the card so it stays "speedy"... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif DrCorvette 07-19-2000, 04:11 PM Thanks guys, Falconsx, this pal is disabled from an elevator malfunction at a local power plant, both knees broken and both shoulders barely operative. He's on disability and his daughter gave him this Mackingosh thingy hoping to give him a surfing tool. The modem locks up all phones in the house when he plugs in the phone line. And, no it don't dial out.. I was hoping to give him this old Evil OS, Win95 and maybe just maybe a old modem would get him going, probably more trouble than it's worth. Thanks all, DrVette thekingofpain 07-19-2000, 06:02 PM Please...what Mac is it, and if you can tell? its current configuration?, Mac folk can be extremely helpful, im sure there are people here that have Mac experience, ***SUDDEN EDIT*** had to re-read, what Mac is it?, you dont wanna spoil it with....(ooops) Windows????????? I tell you if I could afford a bank of computers...it would be G4's... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by thekingofpain (edited 07-19-2000).] Ironforge 07-19-2000, 10:33 PM Just as a side note.. I have installed virtual PC on several imac's/G3's at work. Does not run lightning fast but works well. SoopaStar 07-19-2000, 11:29 PM How's about we collect some computer spare parts for you friend and give him a PC from sysopt.com? (too bad we dont have those **** computer badges...). then he can come here and get tech support for it! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif I have some items that I can donate for the cause. Anyone interested in this idea? Paul falcompsx 07-20-2000, 12:34 AM Win NT 4.0 has code on the cd for powerpc processors(New Macs, G3 and G4's) this should fly, *BUT* software might not run on it. I've never tried. Office may or may not run with out a special build most likely available from M$ directly. Then again, why not just buy a PC? Richard_Cranium72 07-20-2000, 04:47 AM SoopaStar, that's a very noble idea, however I am concerned that this might open the door for shady characters to come in with some "sob, boo-hoo" story to try and get our excess hardware. Please don't confuse this with the very legitimate "Lower Country Multiple Sclerosis Society" computer roundup that happened a while back. The member gave validation as to the veracity of his cause. I don't wish to raise eyebrows or cause suspicions as to my intent.. thanks , DrVette SoopaStar 07-20-2000, 07:37 AM Richard_Cranium72=DrVette ? Richard_Cranium72 07-22-2000, 05:38 AM Soopastar, Yeah, this is true. I have avoided the Senior status for a while by changing my pen name. There was a thread on that a while back. =>> http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum17/HTML/000183.html , ""Shall Richard Cranium die an honorable death, or continue onward as one held in status of senior, which is a falsehood or pseudonym?""
