Along the lines of the 1=1 thread, I'd like to propose another mathematical thought. Given the well known universal truth:
Time = Money
Knowledge = Power
Power = Work/Time
We can manipulate these equations thusly:
Power = Work/Time
Knowledge = Work/Time
Knowledge = Work/Money
Money*Knowledge = Work
Money = Work/Knowledge
Given the above final equation, as Knowledge goes to zero, Money goes to infinity regardless of the amount of Work. Does this explain Bill Gates' seemingly endless money supply? (And why I'm not rich http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif)

Ahhhhh, the Dilbert principle! It's one of the principle natural laws holding our reality together.....

bill gate is just a computer nerd
sort of like hitler
he was there at the righ time, and right
place.
maybe he and hitler have alot in common
maybe blood related?
could be his great grandson from germany http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry to say win_98,
but I think you're a little out of line there.
Being at the right place at the right time?? For what?? Starting WW2???
I don't like what Billie has pulled of either, but to compare him to such a sick minded, twisted person such as Adolf Hitler, I think you are wayy out of line there.
I think you'd do wisely to edit that message of yours.
And for the fact for them being alike, you're wrong.
I don't see Bill putting people in deathcamps, bcause they might like Linux better or something like that.

Maybe the difference between us and him is that he didn't waste his time begrudging what others did.
For bonus points, name the IBM chairman who sold the rights to DOS. That is the person we would be talking about today.

See, my problem is that I don't see how Power = Work/Time. I'd think it'd be more like Knowledge + Money, which would sort of change the equation a little.
Power = Knowledge + Money
Money = Power - Knowledge
And so if knowledge is a negative number, power still doesn't have to be extremely big. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif That's probably more appropriate http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif The only problem with this is that it creates several paradoxes.

Whoa, whoa whoa. Slow down everyone. Hittler is a different subject matter all together. The two individuals cannot be reasonably compared. Hittler first of all was not a "bad" person as our history books may reflect. The concentration camps and ruthless killing is all we ever hear about. Indeed, I do NOT justify these things he did; however, he wasn't always like that. He did some wonderful things for Germany and the world before he became corrupt and we did the things people remember him for. Further more, Bill Gates, is not a tyrant. He is a very smart man. He was a forefather in computer technology and deserves the respect he earned for himself.
We need not look to our tabloids and magazine slanders boasting such articles about "How much is too much" and "Computer Geek or Anti-Christ" These are simply editors and journalists trying to "sell" their own product. Indeed, Mr. Gates has done a few things for which he should not be proud of. But, put yourself in his position. Do you deny the opportunity for the sake of society's moral implificartions? He** no! Because society says "It's wrong to aid in the development of weapons of mass destruction" does not mean that this action is wrong! People act like society wants them too because of fear.
What do we do with a "crazy" person, someone who says "The end of the world is coming"? We lock them up in a "looney bin" In biblical times we would proclaim them as a prophet. Society makes us believe what is not like us, is wrong. And because Bill Gates is what we want and not what we are our Jealousy and Greed drives us to hatred. I commend Mr. Gates for all he has done for the silicon age.

Hi everybody,
First:
Joel Kleppinger, power = work / time according to physic. The howste's line of thought is a known text on the net. There are plenty of others too. (Sorry, howste http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )
Second:
I think that Bill Gates just hit the target on the center! He gave to the computer society what it wanted. A user friendly environment that can easily bring computer technology to the common mortal! Till then (before MS-DOS) you had to be an expert of Unix to just edit a text. Microsoft gave to the public something that noone else had done before. That's all.
Third:
I don't think that Microsoft's success is THAT big! I mean look at IBM. IBM when it was on top it had more than 70% of the market (software + computers + peripherals + typing machines). And look at that company now. It does significant researches on new technologies (yeap, it does) but its financial situation is going from bad to worse! On the other hand MS sells only software (yeah and joysticks too) and she has less than 70%. So it is pretty likely that after a few years it will fall and an other company with an other Bill Gates will take the leadership. MS has a history of about 10 years (ok maybe a little more). I am 21 and 10 years is half my life but if I look more objectively 10 years is nothing. It will fall; not now, but in 5 or 10 years it will. It's the way capitalism work!
And fourth:
Unless WE do something about this Bill Gates and any other Bill Gates will always be above our heads to do whatever they like. I say if someone doesn't like what is happening then he should try to stop it! I would agree with Win_98 about the Hitler profile of Bill Gates. I know that many guys disagree with that but I doubt if any of them are aware of revolutionairy Marxism and the true meaning of capitalism and its role across the history. Well, I am and I say that later capitalism is twice more fasism than Hitler's one.
OK, I know almost all (almost http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) will disagree with the last part but that's my belifs men. And I think the Gates's subject is the best place to express them!
The Bill and Linda Gates Foundation recently gave a few $Million to fight starvation in Africa.
Meanwhile, MicroStuff has a very high percentage of second-class perma-temp employees who, although happy to be working, do not get the benefits of the "real" MS staff.
How nice!
