... from a not so innocent user. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

If I had a webpage from my ISP, and someone linked to it from, say, a url provided in a message base on ZDNet, is there a way, or a piece of software I could get, to log that fact? Something that would tell me not just that I had been visited 4 times (a counter), but that I had been visted by someone from ZDNet, someone from Joe's ISPs, someone from Dixie's Butterscotch Recipe Exchange, and one from AOL?

I assume this is done all the time with banners running from servers. But can a simple web-page use the same technology?

How detailed could the info be? Could it tell me exactly where the reference in the ZDNet message base was, for example?

Whoa, that thing is cool!

I signed up for it for my site, since the "Hitometer" from www.websitegarage.com (http://www.websitegarage.com) stopped giving detailed reports...

I don't know if this fits your needs or not, but I use Thecounter.com. The reporting is fairly detailed, but the thing I like is no banner or button advertisements, and it's free.
