You can run wires from unit to unit, or x10 makes a device that will allow you to do it wirelessly... www.x10.com (http://www.x10.com)

Why? IMO I see no reason to join another. I think its a bit tacky to solicit another board for members with the same theme.

Although I do appreciate the Hosting site. I may have to create my own place. He he!

I agree, jman.

The no charge soliciation at this board shouldn't be happening. There are banners an inch or two above the free solicitation posts. Banners, which people have to pay for.

I have no ties to that site other than being a member, but, I can see where someone might look upon my statement as a solicitation. As you can see, Ive edited the post and removed the link.My only reason for posting the link was that I liked the site and thought I would pass it along, as I liked the way it was set up.That and I got some good info about my question. This is not an apology because I dont think I did anything wrong. I think I was just doing what everybody else on these boards is doing-sharing information about computers.
SysOpt.com has plenty of links to other help forums on it's site. I dont see them being accused of solicitation.

I agree with lyncmob on many things that he said, espcially about posting links. Soliciting is not good for anyone, but for a site the size of sysopt, it's a mystery. Small, indiscrinate forums (such as mine) are shuned, while any other forum actually posing a threat are welcomed to be viewed. I'm here just to let you know that I was slightly irked that lynchmob was accused of soliciting when I know other forums are gladly linked on posts in sysopt. This is my first time at sysopt, and will most likely be my last. I'm here posting for the first time to let you know that I care about my members, espically when they are ridiculed for posting a link. I'm not trying to hit a bad nerve, but the trafic sysopt takes in does not warrent the accused solicitation of a forum. Smaller boards with one-forth the trafic of sysopt ask to post what boards they visit. It seems to me that sysopt might becoming to large.

You'll probably have to use some form of the line-in on your sound cartd. The most important things for good sound quality is to get an excellent tape player hooked up to a sound card with a very low s/n ratio on the line in.

You can just record the entire cassette to a wave (about 10 MB a minute, roughly) and then burn the wave file to CD as digital audio. Sonic Foundry makes a plugin that helps reduce noise and hiss, but I don't remember the name.

The other way is to get the app that comes with Adaptec Easy CD Creator Delux... it will burn the CD on the fly from sound coming in through the line-in or other inputs.

I personally would prefer the former since I'd probably turn them to mp3 as well. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif You can use just about any wave program to cut out the songs from the whole tape if you want. That way the different songs can be tracks on the CD, rather than just one track.

Now for the off-topic discussion:

Try to understand our dilemma. By definition, we don't want to interfere with any post or topic. The mods are only for trying to keep trolls, flamers, and trash posters at bay. Occassionally, it happens that they need to contact a "proven member" about something that they said, or rather, shouldn't have said. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Still, we don't enjoy doing it and would certainly rather not have to.

Because of that, we obviously carry that over to links to other sites/forums. A year ago, when someone started up a site or forum and they mentioned it here, we did or said nothing about it. Of course, we only had about 2-3k members back then.

Now, we have over 10k members and quite a bit more forum traffic. Even still, we try not to interfere even when links to other forums are posted (notice we didn't in this case, even though we considered it, I elected not to saying it wasn't a big deal). The reason it was considered was the blatant way it was just tossed out in an "oh yeah, check this site out, too." I'm not surprised people thought it was the original poster's site. I know I did.

The problem is that we sit back and imagine what would happen to whatever section of the forum if we let everyone post about every site or forum they've come across or created. It doesn't take much of an imagination to know that any "real" posts would quickly be drowned out. It's too easy to create a "site" to link to.

The reason why other big sites are linked to at times is that there is some bit of information that our users ARE interested in. I'll readily admit to you that not all hardware knowledge is contained within the sysopt.com domain. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif So, linking to some new bit of knowledge (even your own) is welcomed... make that WELCOMED. But if you just started up a site, ask specific friends (even from the forum) via email, but try not to post here about it until there's something there that adds value as a link to SysOpt.

If everyone will take a little responsibility in keeping the SysOpt forum clean of waste, then everything that is posted will be of value. It's all up to you.

Thank you for replying to my original post,JK. I have received tons of useful advice about my recording project and truly appreciate the response I have gotten from here and elsewhere. If I feel the need to reply to the off-subject post, I will respect your wishes and use the appropriate thread.
