Firstly, I hope this is the right forum to post this. If not I apologise.

Once I created a Norton Zip Rescue set, burned the Zip disk onto onto a CD-R and also made the CD-R bootable using the Rescue floppy as a basis. Of course, I replaced the Zip drivers in the floppy with CD-ROM drivers and editted config.sys and autoexec.bat accordingly.

The CD managed to boot, but when it tried to load Windows, I get a Windows Protection Error or something. I think this is because Windows tried to write to the registry on the CD, which of course could not be done.

So the question is, can this problem be circumvented? Anybody have any ideas?

Hmm, could you modify the Autoexec to first copy a file or two to C: then switch to C to do the extract?
