It's already been done a few years back, except the central processor was the size of a coffee table - can't recall who made it though, sorry - except for the size - the major problem was that every other sub-system couldn't handle the speed....

You know, they do have a router out that is completely optical and doesn't require electricity. I read an article a few months back, it was supposed to be the fastest router out there... by a whole lot.
