I'm taking the A+ Dos/Windows certification exam on July 21. I'm wanting to hear from people that have any thoughts or ideas or recommendations for me for the exam. Do braindumps work? What are your thoughts of braindumps? Thanks! Need all the help I can get!!

Took it about 2 yrs ago - twas easy. I forget the author but the book I used was red and black if that helps. Also it was very outdated for it's time.

That's it. The core was a little harder than the win module - but it's been almost 2 yrs since I took the thing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey canuck, I just took it last friday, and did fairly well. Yes, the braindumps do work, I would say from my experience though that the core module is fairly easy... Concentrate on the DOS/Windows modules, especially DOS and win 3.1 and some of their commands. I don't know if you're going to take the "adaptive" test or not. I know that I made it right under the wire and took the regular test. Good luck!! I know you will do fine.

Ptrper - ditto

also..

Be familliar with how to get to things such as printers and device manager, and how to configure things such as a new printer or modem - be able to visualize this.

Know which items are available on the Win9x start menu and which items are in the control panel.

Be sure that you understand which version of Windows the question is refering to -often it is not specified.

Know the most common/frequently used "/switches" for DOS commands such as format and xcopy.

Be familliar with the boot sequence of DOS, Win3x, and Win9x

Finally, take your time, mark uncertain questions - go back over them but only change your answer if you have a good reason - most of the time your first guess it the correct one.

Best of luck,

George

Took it 6/29/00
core=88%
dos/win=82%
All that Cmonster said is correct and I might add that there are 5 or 6 network Qs on the dos/win exam.Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys! Very kind of ya!!
So, what are your opinions of braindumps? Did they help at all? It took me two tries to pass the Core exam. The firt time, I didn't know about braindumps but before I wrote the second time, I discoverd braindumps which helped me pass with an 85% on my Core. What are your opinion's of braindumps?
Mike
P.S. I'm writing tomorrow(July 21) and I'm not taking the updated version yet. It goes into effect July 27(or July 28).

hey canuck, braindumps are useful, but I would say to use them for review purposes only. If you try and go take the test solely on the answers from the braindump, you will not pass. Once again, good luck! Tell us how you do.

I've been using the braindumps, only for a "peek" at the exam. I'm looking up the answers for the dumps as well and found many answers to be wrong. I find dumps good for studying because it forces you to look up the right answer, therefore you learn! I'm at the point now, where if I see a wrong answer in a braindump without looking at my books, I know the answer. So, I think I'm ready!! Thanks for the advice and info!!!

Never used them. I was fortunate enough to have a local night class that did everything hands on so you really learned instead of just preparing for a test. Worth every penny.
