I've been trying to Intall Win98 on a friends system. When windows is booting for the last time when installing, i won't go by the win98 start screen it stops and crashes!! When the CD-ROM is removed it works, boots into windows no probs!!! So tried a variety of ROM's and DVD's still didn't work. The only way i can install win98 is to copy the cd onto the Hard disc, using my pc. Win95 installs with no problems at all, but they want Win98. Its an old system an AMD K5 100Mhz CPU, 24MB EDO RAM (Simms) S3 trio64v PCI, ESS ES1868 sound card, Diamond SupraExpress 56i SP Intl modem, 1.1GB Quantam HD and the mobo is an opti-viper-m-2a5unh01c-00. Can anyone give me some help or advice. I think the BIOS may need updating but i'm not confident flashing it as it's not mine.
Thanx - Rob

Start over by reformatting, and loading the 98 upgrade first. When it asks for the previous OS then pop in the 95 disk. It worked for me in overcoming (what sounds like start-up disk) problems.

Hope it helps,
