I'm not sure what is causing your slowdown, but I have a possible solution. Before running setup, copy the Win98 directory from the CD to your hard drive. Run the installation from the hard drive and it will usually run a lot faster, especially if your CD drive is an older one.

Good luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Do you have enough memory you need 64 meg also do you have the disk space. The slow loading would suggest ony 32 meg memory.

I have an old NEC 150Mhz pentium.....I dont know any of the parts inside accept for the hardrive which is a Seagate. Okay here's the PROB:

I run FDISK repartition and reformat. Then In the bios I change the reboot sequence to CDROM, A and HD. Then I restart and it asks:
1 Start windows 98 setup
2 Boot from HD
3 Start with CDROM support

I choose 1, then it enters 98 setup but says it will take 400 minutes to finish. And it literally takes all day all night to finish.
Whats wrong? Has anyone had similar problems?
Is the hardrive shot? THANKS!

The only question I can relate is the RAM. I've used Win98 quite sucessfully with only 24mb of RAM. This was a 32 chip with 8mb dedicated to video. It loaded Win95 pretty quick and gave NO trouble. With small ram memory, the machine writes to the swap file instead of accessing the RAM, that's all. It was quite fast for general surfing, no gaming, and stable. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us on your particular problem. Try to read the mobo info and the bios chip and re-post this info.. DrVette
