I have a socket 7, sure of it as a 66 MHZ board. I want to upgrade it to a AMD 300-66 K6-2 Chip, pretty sure I canaaaaaa with it... now, my problem is, I lost my motherboard manual and I can't think of a way to install the chip and change the jumpers without it... but then I wonder, since the manual was pretty long before the advant of the chip, how much good would it do anyway, since the jumper settings were never specified back in the manual.

Anyway, this brings me to my question, is their a way to change jumpers without manual, and also, is their a way to idenfity the motherboard without manual. I'm really in a bind, as I do not even know the manufacturer, as the box has been lost as well. Please, someone help me, thnx!

Open the case. Look at the motherboard. Printed on it will be the manufacturer, model, rev. and all that jazz. You may find the jumper settings right there on the board. If not, goto the manuf. home page on the web, you can usually d/l the manual. The MB, should handle the chip. If you're going with SS7, the K6-2/350 sells for about $20-30. It's easy to find. It has a 100MHz FSB. Just remember, you can always run a chip slower than it calls for, the chip will be happy, it will stay cool, and it will last a long time.
