I just finished installing 5.5 and so far "visually" everything seems the same. I haven't read up on what the actual changes are yet, but it only took 30mins to download on my dual 56k connection, so WHY NOT?! http://smilecwm.tripod.com/net2/smile-l.gif

5 secs? Killerbug you stink http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Wow.. I still can't imagine being able to download huge programs like IE in less the 10secs. It's too unreal for me. I've used dialup all my life. Having to wait long periods of time for demos/programs, usually helps me to keep my hard drive from being cluttered. I can't say that will happen when I move to T1 this fall http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I can't get into the link above, maybe it's too busy right now. Windows update still only has the beta version listed, but the Windows IE main page is offering the
5.5 final release here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Ie/default.htm

Anyone taking bets on how long it will take the first service pack to be posted????
2 days, 3 perhaps?
I'm happy with IE4.01SP2 - it's the most stable - I'm forced to use 5.0x but find it crashes too often for me.....
Hi Guys !?
Actually dl:d IE 5.5and installed it, the reason was (Using W2K) the strange hangups in explorer, so I thought what a heck, "Just Do It." (Courtesy of Nike, lol) And, for the first time in my 'puter-history, something Microsoft have done actually works. No hangups, believe it or not, faster downloading of pages through firewall and network, even sysopt.com, wich was a pain in the a** before...

BTW: Are there any other working people having holidays right now ?

So far, IE 5.5 feels pretty good. The beta used to always freeze up when I loaded Espn homepage with cookies turned off, but now its good.

The big improvement in 5.5 is the
"print preview" feature. Actually, it's pretty cool. (It's under the file botton).
I tried the beta version and had problems accesing some sites, but I haven't had any problems at all yet with this release.

I downloaded the combined version for 9x/Me/2K, some 46MB. Took me only 3 hours and 15 minutes http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
My son downloaded it at the same time while we chatted on AOL AIM. Took him 7 minutes.

I d/l'd 5.5 yesterday and so far I like it. It seems a lot quicker & smoother than 5.01. Print preview feature is nice

I had the beta for several months and my only beef with it was that it sometimes forgot the previous URL, making the 'Back' button go 2 sites back. That appears fixed so far in the final release. I do like the repair option (which also was in the beta release).

Repair option? What do you mean? IE 5.0 had a repair option via the add/remove programs in control panel. If you chose to remove it - it would give options. One being repair. Is this what you are talking about or is there something new?

I don't notice much of an improvement from 5.01 to 5.5 but I think it does load a little faster and works better on my computer.

I have an annoying bug in it! Every time I click on a link to download a program or video clip it closes the open browser window and then media player pops up. The only thing I have been able to do is right click and open in a new window.
Anyone else have this problem? I am running W2K.
