Like the subject says, I'm looking to acquire
a pentium 200mhz non-mmx so I can boost up my wife's system from the 100 mhz she is currently at. The reason it has to be non-mmx is because the FIC socket 7 mobo she has levels out at 200mhz and doesnt support the 2.8 voltage, I think the lowest it supports is around 3.2 or something to that level and a little higher... Although I can buy a 233mmx chip from a friend for 20 bucks I got this uneasy feeling that if I took the chance to install it I would most certainly fry the chip and I would rather not give my wife something else to laugh at me about LOL...
So if anybody has one and can help me out let me know...TIA

I think I have a 166 in a drawer if you are interested, you could probably OC it. That board is probably only running at 50, can you set it to 66 and a different multiplier?
You can have for $20 if you're interested I'll check and post tomorrow if it's a 166 as it might only be a 133.

Thanks Scotter and GarthLear. Yes I can set it to different multipliers and the bus speed can be set to 50, 60 and 66 (it is at 66 now according to specs). The board just tops out its limit at 200mhz but OCing isnt a prob if need be and the chip can do it.. I already tried to OC the 100 (Pentium S-100 never seen one with the S before but I tried anyway..) to the next step up at 120 and even to 133 and then spent an hour messing with jumpers with all the configs I could but it was a no go LOL..I appreciate the help from both of you and am crossing my fingers and toes LOL ...
Floyd

By the way, I found out that since this is an Sy007 type Pentium 100mhz chip that it is multiplier locked so I cant really do much to it since the board only goes up to 66....

Sorry to get your hopes up, its only a 133 and SY022 so doubtful on OC. Since you can only go up to 66 you probably need to find a 166 or 200 if you can. Good Luck

Ok cool Scotter,
Let me know what you find out thursday and I guess if noone else comes up with anything in the mean time I will have to make a decision then LOL...Thanks again...I too will also be very busy tomorrow. LOL I'm gonna go about 100 miles away to check their shops since the city is bigger and they just "might" have something...but I seriously doubt it LOL..I looked there last time for a 2.1 gig (even used) harddrive and the smallest anyone carried was 10 gigs or more, If I could afford one of those I would have gotten one in my own hometown LOL..so I'm betting that most places only carry the newer components but if I get lucky and find something I will let you know so you wont have to go running around for me....

OK, Scotter...I found absolutely nothing today LOL...and Izzy thanks for the offer, I'm not sure if it would work with my mobo but I will definately keep you in mind though my decision is pending on what Scotter is able to hunt down and what GarthLear decides from my next statement... GarthLear, I just may take you up on the 133 since I may run out of better options.. that is, if you would be willing to go 15 shipped...Thanks again all...

You said you have a FIC motherboard?

What model and bios revision?

You can download the bios test program from Intel by clicking here (http://www.intel.com/overdrive/odpdiags.exe), and find out for sure if it will work or not.

It's up to you, so just let know, cause I will probably put it up on auction at Ebay if your not interested.

I've got a used Pentium 180MMX Overdrive chip. You just gotta set the bus speed to 60 and your set.

If you're interested, $50 shipped.

Well the Overdrive was pulled from a Socket 5 motherboard, obviously older than your Pentium motherboard, so it should work no problem. Just set your motherboard up as a Pentium 150, for best performance.

Did ya run the bios test from Intel as listed above?

Commodsquad; I received your e-mail and will send you my P-200 chip on Monday when the Post Office reopens, all that I ask is that you send back what it will cost to ship it to you? I'll include a return envelope with my address if that's okay with you?

regards, buddmann

commodsquad; I don't know if you reeived my e-mail, if not, yes I sent the chip out by air mail yesterday and they said you should receive it in 7 to 10 days.
It cost me $5.14 Cdn. to send it, my return address is on the envelope.

Enjoy the chip, Roger aka buddmann
