What are some good cooling ideas for this? The asphalt on the track gets up to 160ºF, and the pits themselves get up to 140ºF. This means the air in the pits gets to around 100ºF, not including the humidity (this is the south). Are there laptop fans? Or are we going to have to keep the laptop in the truck?

There are laptop fans, but I would sugjest leaving it in the truck, there is a lot of sh** in the air at a race, and a lotpop fan will shove all of it into your tightly packed case. Before you know it, you suck in a piece of wire or metal or something and the laptop is history.

If you really need it at the time, thus not being able to leave it in the truck, have a look at this.
The fan has a filter... http://www.3dcool.com/laptopcooler.shtml

I use one of those laptop coolers, cant see how it would help much to pump more hot air in under those conditions tho, you can purchase laptops that are manufactured for "extreme use" which you may be approaching, Military spec, not cheap by the way, (double the cost of a comparable machine)...I have a friend with a home inspection company in Hawaii...went thru a few laptops before adopting these...I can dig up the link if you need it...

I had one of those latptopcoolers. They are kinda neat. I dont think it really did a whole lot. the main source of heat is the processor in a laptop. Your best idea would be to get a newer PC with an AMD processor and use their new speedstep technology. then you can run it slower and save on head. Really, most of the time ir you feel the bottom of the laptop case, you will feel the heat. If you can cool that...then you should be okay. Laptops are a little more durable than desktop PC's. though, so I wouldn't worry TOO much. Just out of curiousity, what do you use the laptop for? I am a member of the DSM.ORG club and i know alot of guys use laptops in their cars for a 'datalogger' software that records a/f ratio, knock sensing, EGT, and a ton of other stuff.....what does yours do?
